Eric's response refers to the federal Single Holder Rule. The Single Holder Rule is an aspect of the federal loan consolidation process that some loan holders should be aware of. Information at www.finaid.org, provides information about Single Holder Rule Loopholes.

Make sure you watch out for your lender names. If you have lonas with only one lender, you have to consolidate through them because they have first dibs on your consolidation process.

Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to those of us who have been out of school for a few years and consolidated way back when. That would be way back when the rates didn't fluctuate and you got 8% or you got nothing.
