I think these are excellent points - but your comment about the hypocrisy of vegetarians wearing leather really bothered me, as I am a vegetarian who wears some leather (mostly secondhand shoes). This has tended to provoke smug, nasty comments from meat-eaters and that's always bothered me. I understand the point of having a coherent philosophy and sticking to it. I don't like to eat meant but I'm not a vegan, either. I respect people who are that committed, but I find that it's easy to burn out and give up quickly once you realize that wine and beer and even sugar are refined through animal products and that it's very hard to find items that have NO animal impact. Also, sometimes people living that kind of lifestyle tend to alienate people who do eat meat, instead of showing them how to show a little more compassion to animals without great sacrifices. My philosophy, which I have adhered to for many years, is to reduce the number of animal products I consume and advocate for improved conditions for the animals I do end up exploiting (and be a sympathetic and accessible example for others to do the same). So, I hope you won't judge me as a hypocrite for that! After all, I can guarantee that in another seventeen years, I will still be a vegetarian (and maybe my son who is also currently a vegetarian will still be too!).

Wow, cool article! I'll start right away and use rule 1 ("Action is everything"), rule 5 ("Life is short") and rule 8 ("Most things suck") to do something good. Like shooting that damn kids down on the street that make such a noise! *eg*
