Here’s a tip I cannot believe I’m sharing in public.
For years I’ve battled dandruff. I mean I’ve had it bad. Recently it’s reached nightmarish proportions — my scalp was like North Dakota in January.
I tried all sorts of remedies. I tried Selsun Blue. I tried Head and Shoulders. I tried Denorex. Nothing worked. I even tried not washing my hair at all. That didn’t help the dandruff and just created the added grossness of greasy hair.
Frustrated, I was ready to make a doctor’s appointment, ready to spend vast sums of money to defeat the dandruff. Then, on a whim, my wife bought me a bottle of baby shampoo. You know the stuff: “tearless”, etc. I was skeptical, but willing to try anything. You know what? It worked!
I’ve been washing my hair with baby shampoo daily for the past two weeks. It hasn’t eliminated the dandruff completely, but it has reduced it dramatically. I mean by an order of magnitude. To levels of normality.
I cannot vouch that baby shampoo will work for everyone, but if you too have a dandruff problem, it cannot hurt to try. It’s an easy and cheap solution. And do me a favor: if you try this, post back here to say whether or not it worked for you.

I have an 8 month old baby so already had J&J. I could not believe after first wash, those awful flakes were about 90 percent gone. I could not believe it. After two weeks of use it’s all gone! My husband and I will continue to use it. I have used other OTC shampoos, it must be baby shampoo has no harsh chemicals. Thank you so much for going public!

All AD Shampoo’s are NASTY for your hair, they might work for a while, but they were never designed to be used exclusively (even though the directions don’t say this), once a week should be enough & only when you have dandruff, the rest of the time use a very mild shampoo like J&J Baby, No tears formula. Experiment. You just might be allergic to the one your using or you may be using to much, try just enough to lather up your hair & only one wash, try with & without Conditioner.
I use TRESemme Vitamin E & Aloe
Colour Revitalising Shampoo & NO Conditioner, it uses the same AI as J&J Baby NT, Sodium Laureth Sulfate. No problems at all now, costs a bit, but it is large 900ml, so lasts a long time.
It’s because of the the “active” ingredients (AI) in shampoo’s, this is usually listed on the front, otherwise it’s first on the back, this detergent usually is very strong:-
These two are particularly Nasty:-
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate
These two are very mild:-
Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Ammonium Laureth Sulfate
These fist two are probably stripping the natural oils out of your scalp leaving you with dry skin, not dandruff.
Baby Shampoo’s use a similar but less strong detergent agent called Sodium Laureth Sulfate, don’t know if there is one with Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, but look at them all, check out all the Baby & Kids shampoo’s.
Some of the ingredients in Shampoo’s, make you wonder if it’s castoff’s from a dangerous chemical dump!
Also if you have dandruff & you use other hair products like Hair Gel, Spray, Oils, Creams or Colours , stop using these first to see if that helps.

hi there,
Me too, i have a bad case of dandruff. I use Kerastase Bain Gommage shampoo. It takes out the itch and reduces it to an acceptable level.

I took Apocimedidene to induce immune(wart in hand)to fight HPV with nitrogen freezing treatment. 6 months past, now I don’t have any visible warts. One thing I noticed was that my head itching stopped while I was taking apocimedidene tablets. Now it came back. I went to the doctor & got prescription again. Will let you know, if it goes away.
If this cures or stops it, then I have to find a way to boost immune system & or reduce acid level in my food. apocimeditine is basically the same as anti-acid tablets.

I used to have the same problem with Dandruff. As a kid, I was diagnosed as having Psoriasis on the scalp. Over the years, I tried a variety of shampoos (pretty much every one mentioned here) and many herbal remedies but, nothing seemed to help. What worked for me was… wait for it…Working out! That’s right! Exercise!!
I noticed one day that, all i need to do is run a couple of miles. In other words, run until the point that I worked up a good sweat and that took care of my ‘snow’. Half an hour swimming laps in the pool also works just as well. One thing to point out is that if there is a break in my workout regiment of more than a week, the condition flares up right again. So, this isn’t an absolute solution. You have to keep exercising to keep the dandruff off your head. But exercise never hurt anyone, right? Plus, it’s free and with the money you save on those expensive anti-dandruff shampoos, you could get rich just that little bit quicker.

Make a rinse with Vinegar and water. Be sure to massage into the scalp. Rinse a bit to take away vinegary smell. Some dradruff is caused by a fungus (like athletes foot) and vinegar helps to kill the fungus. Thank

Ive had dandruff for as long as i can remember, it is so embarassing especially back in school when it used to pile on my shoulders. I used head and shoulders which was hopeless, i used to oil my scalp (mum told me that helped) everything. Only recently i got a free tester of this l’oreal evlive Active Selenium S Shampoo and conditioner. Incredible, worked like a charm, havent had dandruff since it touched my hair. I couldn’t believe it. I recommend everyone who has dandruff to try it.

I had horrible dandruff problem for the past 4-5 years. Flakes of skin would just come off my skull. The worst part was it used to itch in the skull most of the times. It was almost a nightmare for me, since I didn’t had dandruff before that. I had dried H &S, Nizorol, Pantene, Garnier, and even some herbal shampoos! None of them were of any great use, because the flakes would appear the day after I wash my hair, no matter what.
I was researching about dandruff remedies and I came across this article of J.D.’s. I thought of giving it a try and bought a small bottle of JOHNSON’S® Baby Shampoo at ShopRite. Oh boy….I don’t know what this shampoo does or what contents it has, it just made my dandruff problem disappear…almost!
I wash my hair 3 times a week and I should say the dandruff has reduced more than 75%.

Cheers to Johnson’s baby shampoo and J.D. for sharing the secret

The worst part was it used to itch in the “scalp” (not skull) most of the times.

I have really bad dandruff, I just washed my hair with vinegar and shampoo. I already see the results flakes are gone and my head doesn’t itch.:)

Yeah apple vinegar really works. Just apply twice a week and it works like a charm. I had really bad dry scalp I think my shampoo was the cause of that. (Infusium 23) I also heard that trying organic shampoo does the trick.

Also johnson and johnson have coupons for the tear free shampoo at http://www.johnsonsbaby.com

I am skeptical of using astringent and vinegar. So I tried johnson and johnson baby shampoo. Its eliminated the problem by about 70%. Thanks for the advice! You think the lavender will be just as efficient??

hey, i’m a teenager as of now and all your comments are really helpful. I just started getting dandruff my sophomore year in high school. I’ve used head and shoulders, t-gel, tea tree, and this one type of tar shampoo. Some days it’s not as bad as others. And about the shaving the head topic, it doesn’t prevent the problem but it allows you to put special scalp products directly to the scalp like you would put lotion on your hands and arms solving the dry skin problem.

I have the same problem and the only relief I found was from baby shampoo as well.

I have literally tried everything. Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue, Nizoral, T-Gel, cider vinegar, lemon juice, Aveda Scalp Benefits (and other Aveda products for scalp), brushing 100 times before showering, rubbing vigourously, freaking EVERYTHING… And still nothing. I guess I will try the baby shampoo see how that goes.

I’m having dandruff right now.on my head and on my eyebrows. i wanted to shave my head but i thought the dandruff will be more obvious. i tried medicated shampoo and it got better but it is expensive so i stop using it and then dandruff came back.
it was alot than before now. i feel so embarrassed and become quite paranoid about it when i go out. Sometimes, i spent half an hour brushing it all off as much as i can before i leave home. i hope johnson baby shampoo works for me. i’m going try anything i can to stop this madness. thanks for the tips

I get a bit itchy and flaky when I use shampoo or moose I’m allergic to. When I use the hypoallergenic stuff, problem goes away. Maybe the baby shampoo is working because you are not allergic to it?
Glad you found something that works

I’d like to share some anti-flake info too. Many people get flaky scalp problems from the foaming agents used in shampoo. They are the laurel laureth sulfites and they are what make soaps bubbly. I use JASON brand shampoos that don’t contain any of these foaming agents and have not had any flaking problems in years (including from psoriasis on my head). Botanicals help to heal the scalp when it has been damaged from scratching (look for a shampoo that has botanicals or jojoba or teatree oil to heal your head). Another (yet more expensive) shampoo that is very gentle and scalp friendly is the WEN product line. Again, no foaming agents (which are what dry out your skin, including your hands when you wash with soap).

Thank you so much for making it public. I bought a bottle of baby shampoo as soon as i saw positive feedback on it. And now my hair changed so dramatically in only one day that i used baby shampoo. I had enormously bad dandruff and now my hair is so silky and dandruff free thanks to you and i don’t even use conditioner because the baby shampoo leaves my hair soft. Thank you now i am confident and feel good when people look at my hair. God Bless you

I can’t say that I’ve tried EVERY method there was to to rid myself of dandruff but I have tried Head & Shoulders and Selsun Blue. I didn’t want to have to buy these different types of oils or pay more than $10 for shampoo. So I followed the advice of using baby shampoo. This method really worked for me. I found it really effective when I scratched my head all over to dislodge some of the dandruff (I know it sounds kind of gross) before going into the shower. You used to be able to see dandruff on my head even right after a shower and now it’s gone! Plus the bottle was under $5!

hey guys,
just wanted to share something else regarding dandruff and shampoos.. sometimes its not the shampoo..
Try washing your hair with water that’s not too hot (as cold as you can go).
I’ve tried the whole T-Gel and head & shoulders thing. A friend told me about the water temperature thing and my dandruff disappeared in one week.
I do agree with the baby shampoo though. Gentle is good.

I have to say, this was one of the funniest blogs I’ve read in a while. And some of the comments are just as hysterical. So not only have I discovered some good tips on how to treat dandruff (which is what I was originally looking for), but it has also provided me with a great comical interlude to my day. LOL.

Hey..I found this blog by accident. I am always looking for the topical quick-fix..lol. The TRUTH, however, is that it is one big yeast infection on your head! You are basically allergic to carbohydrates (especially white flour) and sugar. It will take months to get it out of your system, but you have to eat a salad and green things EVERY day for Weeks..As usual, the yeast will put up a fight as it does off, releasing panic alcohols to your nose and body to make you crave sugar. You MUST resist! We all look for topical solutions because it’s quick and easy, but it’s not getting rid of the fungus causing bacteria that is in overload in your body..Sugar is addicting. It’s so difficult NOT to overload on it on a daily basis (pasta and fruity drinks..yogurt with so much sugar in it that it cancels out the helping bacteria inside it, fries, bread, peanut butter…) I know it works! I’ve been detoxing my entire life on and off, but I just CAN’T lay off the sugar..eat it SERIOUSLY in moderation..So, like an assist, the dandruff always builds up and comes back. One time, I did it for half a year..and WOW even the bottom of my heels were naturally smoother as butter!

I’ve had SUPER bad dandruff all my life. I’ve also tried all the different shampoo’s. I even went to a dermatoligist and got a prescription that didn’t work. However, today I have finally won this ongoing battle with dandruff. I’ve got three words for you. Apple. Cider. Vinegar.

I find Argan Oil works really well for dry and frizzy hair and also helps to reduce dandruff. Also I found that if I washed my hair every over day this also reduced any itching.
