I've always just torn my credit card junk mail up by hand but after reading this article I think I may invest in a <a href="http://www.fellowes.com/Fellowes/site/products/ProductDetails.aspx?Id=3217701" rel="nofollow">cross cut paper shredder</a>.

I worked for AMEX for a bit, and we were to deny any application that had even a slight tear. Not every company (or employee)will be careful it seems.
