Another "secret" frequent flier trick is to find newly introduced routes. I knew that Alaska was going to launch nonstops from Portland to Puerto Vallarta, so I called every day for a few weeks. On the day the flights went into the system, I snagged 2 freebies around Christmas! I am psyched to FINALLY get to use the miles that I can never use when I want. I also did this trick for spring break to St. Martin many years ago.
