I don't think it's being frugal that's rare, it's was quotes like, "It's just a shirt, but I cried about it." The fact that a $30 shirt seemed to outweigh everything else, when they're living together and both work with him at least earning a good income and no kids... that indicates to me that it's not a money problem, it's a relationship problem. If there were talk of huge amounts of debt or bankruptcy, that'd be one thing. Simply being the frugal one in a relationship shouldn't come to tears.

I was amazed at some of the comments the poor girl in "How do I stop judging my significant other’s spending habits?" was getting. Everyone was just dumping on her, as though she's some sort of freak of nature.

I understand her situation, since I'm in a similar one (though I'm married to the SO in question). I bet this girl was raised frugally, or began living frugally on her own. When you have these values, it's hard to see someone you love just wasting their money like that. One 30$ shirt when he already has lots of clothing, that car and paying for parking space when he doesn't use it, etc.

Do that many people really not get it? Are we frugal people that rare?
