Soem good quotes here, especially Andys. It doesn't surprise me the movie Wall Street is missing from this crew's recommendations- that and Boiler Room are business people cult classics! (Wall Street is even in Boiler Room! LOL) Great to see threads geared towards growing money! Saving and living below your means are one half of getting rich slowly- the other half is learning to grow and keep your money. Loving it!

Ayn Rand is confusing the real quote from 1 Timothy 6:10 -- it's the LOVE OF money that is the root of all evil.

Other movies about money: "Trading Places" addresses the nature versus nurture explanations for (monetary) success. "The Full Monty" is a comedy about people dealing with long-term unemployment. "Delicatessen" is a black comedy that addresses scarce resources. "Working Girl" shows someone getting ahead in a more ethical way than some of the big-money movies mentioned above, though she still bends it a bit. "The Gods Must Be Crazy" shows some people deciding that some possessions are more trouble than they're worth. "Married to the Mob" shows someone adjusting to a lower income--you get to see a kitchen with a bathtub in it.

"The Smartest Guys in the Room" would be a fascinating look at just what money can do in the wrong hands, certainly. If you haven't seen it yet and you have any interest in Enron and the related ethical disasters, it's worth a look.

My favorite quote: "There are few sorrows, however poignant, in which a good income is of no avail." Money isn't everything, but there are a lot of times when it helps, and being prepared with your finances can help you weather a lot of non-money-related crises.

While Og Mandino's quote may be true in the general sense, it's veracity sure comes in to question in light of the recent (and still way underreported) corporate scandals.

My favorite movie about money is "Other People's Money" with Danny DeVito. I guess it's not so much about money per se as it is about corporate takeovers, but it's very funny and delightful.

“Never work just for money or for power. They won’t save your soul or help you sleep at night.” - Marian Wright Eldman

This quote really cracks me up. I work for a great nonprofit. My husband is an actor. Our souls may be saved, but I'll tell you, we sure stay up all night worrying about money.

By the way, if you happen to know anyone who's in the market for souls, I'm not using mine.

There are lots of interesting movies about money (though I haven't seen Boiler Room). More than that, there are lots of movies with interesting parts about money.

I've been tempted to post this speech (YouTube clip) from Glengarry Glen Ross. It reminds me of when I when was selling insurance door-to-door. Nobody was ever this extreme, but the spirit was certainly there. I hate this movie, but I think of this scene all the time. That's the sign of good writing. [Warning: rather obscene]

I think "Boiler Room" is a great movie - and money is a common theme throughout.
