The David Allen training is a total joke. What a waste of time. Do yourself a favor and maybe buy the cd's but definitely DO NOT go to the training. Now THAT is a waste of time and money. Better yet, go to the 43 Folders site and since they pretty much STOLE all of that system and claimed it as their own, you can get it for FREE there. And if you are unfortunate enough to get duped into one of their $750 training, DO NOT buy any of their crap they are selling! First of all, their trainers were not very good, boring, and if I heard "Turn to your neighbor next to you" one more time as an "Activity" I was going to get up and leave. Within one hour of this garbage, ALL of the people around me were mocking "the system" and the boring trainer who was trying hard to sell it as something worthwile. What a joke. Then they tried to sell a bunch of David Allen crap to us that was just as much over priced garbage as their training. I am NOT KIDDING when I tell you that I saw the EXACT SAME bag at BIG LOTS for ONE DOLLAR as they were trying to schlep on us for $19.95. REALLY? By the time the long day was over, I was so mad about spending the money and getting nothing for it as well as seeing a big advertisement for me to buy more of their crap. David Allen, you should be ashamed of yourself trying to sell yourself as as real "system" that won't work for 95% of the working population, and then try selling YOUR NAME on crap. Anyone who has had the misfortune of sitting through your horrible training should not only get their money back, but also get paid for their time they wasted sitting in front of your horrible trainers. The best I would suspect from the small crappy company you have is to receive a gift certificate for a FREE bag to put MORE of my worthless David Allen crap into. Thanks for nothing.

For implementing GTD you can use this web-based application:

http://www.Gtdagenda.com

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version and iCal are available too.

[...] For a business to improve its environmental performance, it is beneficial for it to develop an Environmental Management System (EMS) as this provides a structured approach to taking action. The key stages of an EMS are shown below and enable the business to understand its impacts on the environment and then easily identify how to improve efficiency. In case you don’t know the Getting Things Done workflow I have also included that. I’m not going to explain each stage of either diagram so if you want to read up about the topics I would recommend Envirowise for EMS and Get Rich Slowly for GTD. [...]

[...] So if your School List or your Work List or your House List or your Life In General List has reached the magic threshold (universal physics are possibly involved) you can do what I do and make a list. Or you can take it even farther and read a book about how to organize your life. Or, you can choose the middle road and read this guy’s blog wherein he explains the basic concepts of “Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity” to you.
thx for posting this - i actually hadn't heard about GTD until today. maybe it's because i'm in sweden.. but i like the idea & i've already gotten started on organizing some stuff. i find myself often thinking about "all the things i need to do" & it gets too much inside my head, which prevents me from actually doing them. i get exhausted from just trying to figure when i'll have the time for them.

i've read the previous comments & i see that many seem to think this just causes additional tasks/stress.. which might be true if you already somehow have found a functioning "system" (subconsciously or not), but for me it happens too often that i get stuck in stress or worries & then it's good to just know where to start with it all. i'm tired of always needing to catch up on things & i dream of that "vacation feeling" even when i'm not on one :)

GTD is a great way to get a handle on everyday tasks as well as future projects. It seems that one should be able to keep track of a to-do list in one's head. That is the way I used to operate, I am generally a very organized person. However, with the introduction of my twin infants, the to-do lists became jumbled with feeding times, nap times, etc. Thank you for the information, I will give it a try!

[...] You might want to look into the Getting Things Done-system (often refered to as GTD). It will keep you better organized and reduce the clutter in both your physical workspace and your inbox. The book you want to get is called “Getting Things Done” and is written by David Allen. Get Rich Slowly has a short, concise summary of the system, practical advice on how it can be implemented and a nice one page overview as a pdf. The GTD-system can also be used to increase productivity and reduce stress in the rest of your life. [...]

The main problem with the GTD system is that it overcomlicates most simple tasks. At some point you are spending more time organizing and planning the work than actually doing the work. In many cases it would be more effective to stop planning and just DO IT!.
I also fail to see how a system that requires more steps and more work is going to help people who are already having trouble keeping up with everything.

My personal opinion is that GTD is a repackaged version of the 7 Habits Time management quadrant technique with FAT (File/Act/Trash) thrown in.

Still lots of people I know love the GTD system so maybe I'm the one thats an "old fuddy duddy." To each his own productivity!

I counted nine Ammazon Affiliate links in the body of the text

This is a valid criticism. I was so busy worrying about the actual text of the article that I hadn't noticed that I'd "seached-and-replaced" an Amazon link into every spot where I mentioned the book by name. Not cool. I've fixed the problem.
