Educating yourself on personal finance is so important to long term financial stability. I think alot of younger people have never had a solid personal finance education and if they do not take learning on themselves they will never fully understand it. High school and college offer such limited training on it that it is a joke. Especially when credit card companies are giving away free t-shirts, and they are bombarded by million dollar marketing campaigns by big business on campus. A one semester course or single chapter on personal finance course cannot nearly compete with constant everyday bombardment.

One suggestion, "know your bank" should be "know banks". Just because you've been with a bank for years is no reason to stay. Explore options. Look at smaller or larger banks. I was staying with my large bank because of the number of ATM locations they offered until I found out that a small bank close to my house refunds every single fee other banks charge you for using their ATM's. Little things like this can make a difference. So do your homework and research the banking options you have available.
