For Mother's day last year, my brother and I went to our mother's house, fixed up her yard, cleaned the rain gutters, mowed the lawn, trimmed the trees and then cooked her dinner.

Cost us virtually nothing, saved her a ton of money and it was a lot of fun. We spent a whole day together as a family and she enjoyed that quite a bit.

Pots and pans? I'd be one unhappy mama if my family bought me those for Mother's Day. Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but, c'mon, this is 2007. No blenders, either!

Thank you for the link to CR.

2.5 months ago my husband sent me some red roses from ProFlowers.com for V-day. They were beautiful and arrived as though he had bought them at a florist. We live in a State where we are in a rather desolate location, so buying the flowers from ProFlowers was actually cheaper than buying them from the local florist (one). One thing: I thought baby's breath was passe, so if they omitted those, that would have been OK with me.

Thanks again for the link and for this site.

I found that my library has a subscription and they gave me the username/password. Maybe other libraries do this as well. It wouldn't hurt asking.

That has been one of my gripes with Consumer Reports. Having to pay for web access even though I subscribe too.
