Hear Me Speak This Saturday at 1pm in Portland Print
Tuesday, 11th November 2008 (by J.D.)This article is about Administration
Just a quick reminder that I’ll be speaking this Saturday at Portland’s Multnomah County Library as part of the Writers Talking lecture series.
I’ll be at the Central Library from one o’clock until you all run out of questions. Walk up the steps, go through the main doors, and take an immediate right (before you enter the main library). I’ll be in the U.S. Bank room, across from Friends of the Library bookstore [map].
This is only my second presentation, so I plan to keep it loose and informal. I hope to learn as much from you as you learn from me. I’d love to meet some local GRS readers — if you have a chance, come down and say “howdy”!
(You still have time to shape the presentation. If you’d like to hear about a particular topic, let me know.)

I would go, but I’m in Michigan. Good luck on the presentation!

Good luck with your presentation. Do you speak outside of Oregon? What would it take to get you to do a presentation in the DC area?

Fun! I’m volunteering at the Food Bank until 12… we’ll see if I feel like driving across town afterward, it sounds interesting though!

Good luck!

Very nice. If I make it, I’ll say hello.

Sounds cool. I would love to make it but I live in Sydney Australia and that is just simply way too far to go for me

I’ll be there! Looking forward to it.

Thanks for the invite J.D. Your blog has been a positive presence in my life this year and look forward to seeing the presentation this weekend.

Will this be recorded? If so, can you publish it in GRS so that we can watch? Good Luck.

Have you considered recording the presentation and throwing it up as an mp3 download here? If you’re miced with a decent lapel, and repeat the questions (so everyone present can hear them and thus simultaneously capturing them for the mp3), no one will miss anything.
Just an idea.

I am usually a lurker on your site and really like it. I am actually traveling to Portland for work on Sat, but I don’t get into the airport until 12:45. Good luck at your talk!

Hi JD,
What kinds of questions are you willing to take? Do you want to stay on money management or would you be open to questions on how you make a living running this website? I am in the process of starting my own, non-competing of course, website and would love to pick your brain. I first started thinking about is about a year ago. I really had no idea where to start and I found alot of people trying to scheme money out of me so I was put off by it. I kept on plugging away and finally a google search led me to one of your articles, on your plan to transition out of your job to full-time blogging. I was hopeful that you could and inspired to try myself when you succeeded. Are you willing to dicuss your website as a business. I thought I would ask beforehand. I didn’t want to show up and insult you with questions in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thanks.

Would love to attend. However live in Ireland. I’m sure you will do a piece on your experience after the Saturday event.
Good luck with the presentation.

I’ll be there, look forward to finally meet one of the bloggers I read.

Wow, I was already planning a book run on Saturday. Sweet! I will totally be there.

Just wanted to chime in and wish you the best of luck as well

I have read your blog and hadn’t realized you were a Portland person.
I have some prior commitments that I think I can shuffle.
Looking forward to it!

jd: how did it go?
November 13th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I’ll be there with bells on. Well, maybe not bells. No. Definately NOT going to be wearing bells. But my shoes will probably squeek. Yes, that’s it. Squeeky shoes.
And I’ll ask all the obvious questions. Because I just heard about you/this site via Around The Sun. I am a thrifty guy who has let himself see his credit card debt spiral out of control.
But I can learn. I’ll listen, and take notes. And bring friends.

I’d love to meet you, JD, but I’ve got to spend the weekend in my garden on this last sunny weekend. I hope you do really well. This is a great way to get going as a speaker (sounds like you’re putting some of the tips from “4 Hour Workweek” into play!).

You did a good job today, JD. Thanks for doing it. And I hope you will consider starting a GRS meetup in PDX. I would go.
