Should CNN Replace Stock Analysts — With Cats? Print
Saturday, 21st February 2009 (by J.D.)This article is about Funny Money, Investing
You know what? Personal finance is too serious — especially lately. I have a “funny money” category, but I rarely use it. Maybe I should post something to it now and then. Something like this:
Cats and investing! What could be better?
You can find more silly cat pictures — or lolcats if you prefer — at I Can Has Cheezburger?. Most of them have nothing to do with money, but they make me smile. (Believe it or not, this is the second personal-finance lolcat I’ve posted at GRS.)

They have actually made some studies showing that there is no real difference who picks the stocks - be it kittens, your grandma or the monkey from the zoo.
Statistically they will all make the average stock market return.

Humor is key… you have to inject it into the mix. I’ve written a couple pieces only for the release provided by the humor. Please do post to that topic every now and again. You’ll enjoy the process… and so will we!
Thanks!

You’re right!
We should look more on the lighter side of money - that’s exactly why I launched my website as well!

The sad thing is that the talking heads aren’t any better than these cats.
@ Financial Jesus
This could be true if people like Buffett, Peter Lynch, Jim Rogers, George Soros, etc. didn’t exist. There are more than that. However, you won’t find them running public funds (though Lynch did), as there are too many restrictions and too much pressure to follow the crowd. All of the traditional investing “laws” are for suckers.

Nice to see another LolCat fan in the personal finance space. I hope you don’t mind, but I may have to submit this to my Comics and Cents Carnival

There’s one of cats being economists. I chuckle when I see it

Nice!
Given that the market is still up in this picture, I think the cats are doing a much better job!

This short presentation is the only way I have understood the sub prime mess.

Love the cats
I agree that we take ourselves too seriously.
P.S. what’s with the google ads right below the title? While I applaud you’re making more money on this great site, as I reader I find it disruptive

There are quite a few good ones (focused on the economy) here: http://tbm.thebigmoney.com/features/loleconz.
A good laugh/smile comes in handy these days.

I almost posted a ‘failblog’ entry from this site… failblog is of course the counterpart to this, usually depicting people doing things that aren’t working right.
Your blog was the one titled how to build confidence and destroy fear.. and the ad that was showing next to that blog was something about how the end is near and financial crisis abound. It was funny!

Yes, this is the way to choose stock analysts; judge them on how adorable they’d look batting around a ball of yarn. Plus, it’ll send the message to all the kittens of the world that, yes, you too can be a stock analyst and make lots of money even if you are consistently wrong!

Occasionally I’m at the gym and someone has left MSNBC on long enough to see Jim Cramer. I’m pretty sure he could be replaced with a rabid monkey hitting buy and sell buttons and flinging poo.
Entertaining, yes, insightful, not so much.
And I’m all for LOLcats in finance. Ceiling cat sees all, and well, who better to show a stock graph than monorail cat.
