Sunday, 26th April 2009 (by J.D.)This article is about Administration, Travel
Summer’s approaching, and that means family vacations. What are your best tips for travel and lodging? That’s the topic this week on
the sixth episode of The Personal Finance Hour, a BlogTalkRadio program all about personal finance. You can catch it live at 3pm Pacific (6pm Eastern) every Monday.
During this episode, Jim and I will be discussing our travel experiences. I just returned from an annual weekend vacation with friends. I’ll also talk about the benefits of cheap hotels. Do you have something to share about vacation and travel? We encourage you to call with your comments and questions.
There are three ways to hear the show. You can listen through an audio feed at the show page, or you can dial the call-in number at (347) 327-9144. You can also listen through this widget:
Note that the widget always holds the archive of the most recent episode. So, right now it contains last week’s episode. Monday afternoon it will contain episode number five.
Jim and I intend to do this every Monday — possibly with guests! — and we hope you’ll join us. We think this will be a fun way to connect with readers and to help everyone learn more about money management.
Update! We’re now on iTunes! You can subscribe to The Personal Finance Hour as a weekly podcast by following this link (which will open iTunes).

You may want to inform your readers about Couchsurfing..
http://www.couchsurfing.com
This is a volunteer run site, that lets people travelling, and people looking to host travellers match up. It flips the standard ‘isolation in a hotel’ idea on it’s head.

Flights are dropping in prices at records speeds. To get the best deal do the following:
1. Check your destinations airport website to find out which airlines fly into it.
2. Go to each of the Airlines website directly and check prices and times. Third party websites are usually not cheaper.
3. For shorter stays especially check “vacation” or package deals. Often combining a hotel and airline will cost less then the airline itself. If you don’t need the hotel then don’t check in.
4. Roundtrip is usually cheaper then one way- again even if you don’t need it.
5. Sometimes taking a flight to a small city and then onto a bigger city is cheaper then a direct flight even if it means changing airlines.
6. Flights leaving on a Tuesday or Saturday at the cheapest.
7. Last minute deals are hot right now! If you are flexible on your travel dates then this can be the best way to go.
Cheers,
Debbie
