As a child of the 1950's, this video says it all. My father served in the USA Army with great pride in World War II. Like many people, he and my mother knew America, her dreams, and her opportunities. Blessings regarding individual freedom, job opportunities, the ability and responsibility to pay household bills, and educational opportunities were highly valued and mentioned on a regular basis. Thanks for this video.

Interesting video... What a difference between then and now.

We should be thankful we live in a great country filled with great people. Personally, I like the meaning of the message, even if it is dated...

As a kid, my dad would always tell me that we live in the greatest country in the world. I didn't understand what he meant, and thought it sucked here (mostly based on the movies that I saw growing up)... until I went to college and met students from other countries. Then I learned the most valuable lesson about living in america. We have choices! In many countries you don't have that luxury. In some countries you are born into a caste system you can't escape. In others, the goverment decided what your occupation will be.

Yes, now I understand what my dad meant! Enjoy your country, it could be a lot, lot worse.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

Happy Thanksgiving from an American in Mongolia (actually it's Friday here!) and I'm listing to music samplers from a John Denver CD. Lots to be thankful for...great family, wonderful friends. Take care all and thanks for everyone's contributions to GRS. It has certainly given all our family lots of good advice since we discovered it earlier this year.

This sort of video gets a bit ridiculous. Anyone who was alive in the 50s, did you really think that Russian mothers weren't thankful to have healthy children?

Also, once I had a knock at my door -- it was the sheriff, telling me that I either needed to pay him several hundred dollars on the spot, or he'd arrest me, and that he had a warrant for such. My crime? A headlight on my car burnt out, and I didn't send in the proof that I'd fixed it until two days after the deadline. Guess what country this was in?

But regardless of the propaganda video, happy thanksgiving everyone!

Well, they had very good reasons to be thankful that they didn't live in the USSR. It really was a place and time of great freedom, also compared to the West of today.

Though we don't celebrate Thanksgiving over here, our side side of the pond, I really like that tradition. It's a good way to remind oneself of the good things in life.

Well, that was fun to watch! It certainly does do the "meaning" of the holiday justice even if the style is, well, a little out of date for today's society.

Have a great Thanksgiving JD and everyone else that makes GRS such an awesome place to hang out.

Wherever you are, I hope you're thankful that a knock on the door is "not going to be some political gangster coming to drag one of us off to jail because we believe in freedom."

Ha! Happy Thanksgiving everyone. :)
