Sometimes it just means that YOU are a coward. Friends actually DO criticize one another, sometimes for the friends benefit and help.

Correcting is different than judgment. The bible says that God loves whom He corrects, and yes, the bible also says that we are to judge with righteous judgment. These people who say, ‘judge not lest ye be judged,’ don’t understand the context of the scripture, nor do they truly understand friendship, and loved ones.

As a loved one (friend or family) you are meant to judge one another, because if done right, it builds the person up, makes them stronger, makes them think, and makes them consider. SOME people have far too MUCH encouragement going on and really do need someone to tell them, “Look, you’re good and all, but you need to reconsider how you treat others…”

This has NOTHING to do with not being happy with myself. It has to do with wanting justice for someone who is treating others, or THEMSELVES poorly.

Think about it.

This makes it sound like anyone who criticizes or corrects is a grouchy wouchy pants with a chip on their shoulder.

Some of the most kind and wonderful people that I ever knew (and happiest) actually told me quite a few things that I NEEDED to hear that were quite critical. Had I not heard them, I would not have grown at all. I would have stayed in the same stupid place.

A PARENT corrects, and criticizes their chilren.

I particularly like number 35. I definitely need to take more action.

“Keep your options open” struck a cord with me as that was the advice I got growing up. My parents encouraged me to cultivate a variety of talents so I would have more choice of universities and career paths.

As I’ve gotten older, that thinking has morphed into “keep your mind open”. It’s okay to put down roots and make commitments — something which I’m trying to do. I think it’s important to be open to new opportunities and interests, but sometimes you have to let go of some things in order to focus on what you really want.

I found a number of the principles you listed very pertinent to my own life and well worth reflecting more on.

I admit I don’t have kids, but I think there’s some truth to it: If you yourself are suffocating, you’re not going to be that helpful to others in the long run.

Thank you for sharing what you learned from your life so far, all of these lessons, everyone should possess them and practice them.

It seems oddly specific, and as someone in law school right now, I wonder if it’s a message from the universe

There are some strange rules, all for the “better good” of each different culture/country. Things may differ, but the rules always exist.
