Exactly one week after writing my last post, my boss called me into the office. They'd decided to move me off of my time card, make me salaried again, and give me a 4% raise. I had asked for this about two months ago, and they had declined to do so at the time. Apparently, my performance has been st...

Update - I called the lab. I first asked what my payment history was and my current balance. I then explained that I'd received a notice from this collections agency. The woman said that she would call the agency on my behalf and have the collections account removed. I figure I'll call the lab again...

Call the lab. Don't talk to the collection agency. In general it is NEVER good to talk with a collection agency for any reason. Only bad can come from it. They do not have teh ability to do anything good for you. If the lab says you still owe more, owe interest, late fees, collection fees, or whate...

A couple weeks ago, I paid an outstanding medical bill over the phone with my card. I paid this bill in full. This weekend, I received two pieces of mail. One was a billing statement from the lab I had paid dated 10/07/09. The second piece of mail was dated 10/09/09 from a collections agency stating...

Found a note in my desk drawer today at work, while I was organizing some files. "My financial goals for 2008 3/1/08 Debt repayment Build savcings" AmEx -- Pay off by June 2009 Savings -- $2000 in ING by Jan 2010" I ended up paying off AmEx in late 2008. I hit $2k in my savings accoun...

Some context. I was hired at my current company in Feb 08. Last June they changed my job duties and shifted me to hourly plus commission, though my commission duties are pretty minor. When I first got this job I did negotiate very low, because I had never even had a job before. I'm still kicking mys...

Edi, thanks so much for your thoughtful reply! That is great that you have been able to re-asses your priorities and get that flat. :) You are right that a broken engagement is very different from a broken relationship. You can't just get "un-engaged" and still date someone, not when you w...

You know what? I'm going to update this thing! A lot of things have changed since the last time I updated. I am still out of CC debt, thank goodness! One large financial shift has been that my position at work has changed, and that means that I know have a MORE challenging and interesting job that p...

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the support. Yes, the engagement and relationship are both ended -- the phrase 'irreconcilable differences' comes to mind, in terms of where we both intended our relationship to go in the long run. :( Luckily, I have an amazing support system with my housemates and friends...

Update. We have called off the engagement. It was relatively mutual. I think more on my side than his. Thank god for paid personal days! Now, financially, there are all of these things to take care of. We hadn't really started co-mingling our finances, but we were saving for goals together. I'm goin...

Hi GRS journal! Life continues at a good pace. Automated savings and the ability to categorize my wants vs needs has made my financial journey and the little climb uphill on the net worth graph easier and even more satisfactory. A little background story I don't think I've mentioned before. Before I...

Thanks for the input, y'all. It's nothing I had encountered before, so it was a real surprise. Especially considering she could have easily flagged me down to confirm and sign off on my tab (seeing as I was still at the venue), and that my fiance and I both had the wrong impression about what had ha...

loveloveme, I feel that your post was inappropriately focused on something that I'm not asking. Please do not make judgments on the communication skills between myself and my partner. That's rude and not the issue, even in the anonymity of the internet. It's certainly common for places to start a ta...
