I did a lot of amortization charts at the beginning. Like every time I made an extra payment because it was a reward to see the interest or end date change. I also liked seeing that eventually there was an end date. I found by having a chart up where I could see it, I wasn't quite so obsessed/freake...

Feeling trapped and angsty at 26 while living at your parent's house is totally normal even without the student loan debt. Not everyone progresses magically here. If it seems like they do, it's usually because they have greater income, skills, or other resources to start with. It's not an even start...

Thank you, Crankybolt. My comment about whether it mattered to buy American made cars stemmed from my confusion about where cars and parts are made now. I will do my research and spending accordingly. New York Times has a listing of autos made in America.

Haiiiiiiiiyyy, welcome! Excellent title for your journal. Post updates often even if you don't get a reply. The boards are quiet this summer but I know I tend to read more than I post. Sometimes just getting the details down on a regular basis will help clear a path. I got a lot of inspiration from ...

Is your trip to Europe for work, family or something else? I'm just curious and very envious. I remember you said you were going away and that was one of your motivations for remodeling the bathroom but I didn't put that together until you mentioned Europe. Good luck getting everything together and ...

Little has changed since last month. Including our bank accounts. I've been upping our grocery bill to include more healthy treats like nuts, berries and fresh fish as I'm trying to eat better/ lose weight. Add in a couple of weddings (which I never seem to remember to add in the additional costs fo...

This is an ok, treading water month: bills got paid, car fixed up after accident, we pre bought oil for next season, the local taxes got paid (auto, real estate), routine maintenance visits scheduled (water, septic, heating system). Our various accounts for these routine things are wiped out, howeve...

Hope the wine helped and you were able to re-evaluate what's coming up. At least you have this journal help you reflect. You bought a new bed, fridge and numerous other items the past 7 months and yeah, that's a lot of big purchases. Sounds like you need a few days to just recover your sanity, get t...

Cranky Bolt: The assessments were done here in 2007 just after the height of real estate boom, but only taking effect now. I remember when the information came after they assessed the house. I had considered setting up an appeal then, but reading through the information about how they did the assess...

Our tax bill came today for the year and it's a big jump compared to the past ten years. As in the increase = total of increases we've in the past ten years. So I am surprised. The city where I live usually spaces out approved increases over several years so I need to investigate if this is the kind...

Looking ahead. I'm feeling optimistic today. 1. Pay back fund earmarked for this year's Roth $440 (new used laptop purchased this month-so great!) 2 New/used car fund. 3. get a job. I'm so thrilled with the laptop purchase, that having limited funds for discretionary expenses/ personal savings for a...

Reciprocity: For a few years now we've been attending picnics and summer bar-b-ques at the homes of friends but have never had an event of our own. Is it enough that we attend and bring stuff when we're invited? We attended two events this weekend at friends we don't see regularly any more, but we l...
