I agree that 1 pound a week is a good, sustainable approach. Much faster than that and you risk getting on the weight-loss/weight-gain rollercoaster. Anyone can lose weight quickly; it's a lot harder to maintain the weight loss over time. If you take your time and lose it slowly, it means you're bu...

Before the 1992 election, much of the same type of FUD was spread about Bill Clinton. If Slick Willy were to be elected POTUS, it would be the end of all truth, liberty, and justice. The black helicopters were going to round up everyone who believed in a higher power and send us off to concentration...

Another benefit to my lifestyle change that I forgot to mention is that I used to have terrible trouble with heartburn (or acid reflux or GERD or whatever they call it these days) -- when I stick to my points above, avoiding a lot of rich foods and watching my portion control, I have zero issues. I ...

Remember that you shouldn't be going on a diet but rather, changing your lifestyle. Diets are short-term temporary fixes whereas lifestyle changes will help you keep the weight off for the rest of your life :) What I did when I lost 10 pounds was at the end of the day I would eat a skinny cow ice c...

Easy answer: Burn more calories than you take in each day. How do you do that? ⋅ Exercise ⋅ Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) ⋅ Drink lots of water [stop drinking soda pop] ⋅ Limit portion sizes ⋅ Eat fish more often than red meat ⋅ Eat...

It's interesting that "K" did not even follow his own logic with the purchase of the Farrari... K’s logic was, why would he ever pay cash for something if he could just buy an asset that gave him what he wanted without tying up anywhere near the same amount of money. It leaves him with tha...

I think that you have the right idea OP. Starting to think like an entrepreneur - especially in high school / college - will pay dividends down the road. His post was not all that entrepreneurial. The things he posted are more like 2nd jobs, than a route to being an entrepreneur. Nothing wrong with...

Second, the Ferrari buyer would be an idiot to sign up for a lease for the full amount of the income from that business. Unless he had a bunch of other, non-correlated income streams that he could cover the expense with. He did. He bought a Ferrari for cash a few months later, with money from other...

Just a reminder to all those participating in controversial discussions like this one: Keep it civil and don't take things personally. This is the internet, after all.

When will these numbskulls learn...tax cuts do not increase government revenue. I like them as much as the next rich guy, but they just don't help the government finances. If your family were deep in debt would you be trying to cut your salary to help the situation? I think this is the perfect quot...

Here's another one of my hobbies... http://www.foldedspace.org/jeff/audio/HF%26DVCangle.jpg http://www.foldedspace.org/jeff/audio/HFinstalled.jpg The DIY aspect of this hobby means that I have 'saved' money when you compare the cost DIY performance vs. equivalent store-bought performance, but I have...

Nice, Kombat -- love the Lego Star Wars stuff. My 10-y.o. son has started a small collection, so I had to get my own Darth Vader TIE Fighter (#8017). You can spend a lot of money just buying minifigs with that hobby! 8)

Post pics of your hobbies (money pits?) in this thread... Had this sitting in my garage for the last six years (have owned it for 22 years) waiting on a fuel pump, and then needed to replace the gas tank. Luckily my wife's cousin (aka The Volkswagen Whisperer) was able to do all the trouble-shooting...

It all requires a leap of faith to believe -- big bang, evolution, intelligent design, creation, etc. There are gaping holes in each, and none can be proven with any degree of certainty. One example of where evolution fails to provide an adequate explanation is how something as complex as eyesight c...
