I'm looking for a bank account which I can open and close accounts / sub-divide an account online at any time. Basically I need micro-savings accounts for individually dividing each goal. I know there out there.... any suggestions? PNC Virtual Wallet looks good, but not sure if I can sub-divide the ...

Let's start by saying I'm in a very lucky spot. I have a BA degree, and a good job. My work has given me liberty to go back to school AND pay for 1/2 with no strings attached. I'm comfortable in my job, don't plan to leave, and believe no matter my choice; new opportunity will present itself for gro...

I'm considering paying my teen for good grades. Here's my logic: 1. Going to school and getting good grades IS a kid's job as a teen 2. Rewarding grades with a cash bonus for performance 3. Incentive to perform well Potential drawbacks: 1. Unmotivated when at college (payments stop) 2. Performing ba...

Sidewinder - Thanks for the reply. You raise some great options. 1) Child is 2-years. Lots of time, however I want them to have flexibility to go to any school in the US. I like the idea of pre-pay w/ MET, however seems a bit inflexible. 2) Thanks for identifying the 529 plan. It's definitely a soli...

What's the best way to save for a kid's college fund? Where do I start? High yield savings account, a CD, or IRA? What about state programs? Benefits / draw-backs? Example here for my state: http://www.misaves.com/ourplan/index.html . What are the tax benefits / implications? Defer tax or pay 'em? T...

Good to hear the positive feedback about the Ooma system. Sounds like a good system. I've considered purchasing but the intro price was tough to stomach.

For the record, MagicJack is not a good service. Not entirely bad, but you get what you pay for.

Originally I was just using it for Groceries and lunch. My new rule is for Fixed-Cost items only. Things I am regularly spending money on (minus food, because that's where I go over-board). So now I pay my cell phone bill, and utilities as able with the Rewards CC. Fixed cost items only. It's a litt...

Your budget looks great. Well thought out and realistic. Advice #1: Agreed with the other poster: Get Renters Insurance. Mine is $150 a year and has paid off twice! Also, I received a $150 multi-policy discount on my car insurance, so the renters insurance was virtually FREE Advice#2: Track your spe...

Yes. In theory, the person on the other end of the conversation isn't aware of the difference. MagicJack uses a normal phone, which plugs into a USB adapter into your computer. And cordless phones work fine. In fact I have 3 phones running off a single jack (1 base + 2 handsets). In practice; I foun...

I've been managing a budget successfully for over 2 years now, spending less than what I earned. Two months ago I tried to change my spending habits to Credit Card spending which would be paid off in full every month. This system has failed for me. It's made me reckless with my spending. More willin...

I went to my local thrifty store over the weekend, and decided to try out some bargain shaving razors for my face. Generally I use the Mach 3, which I think averages about $3 a blade. These were 4 blade system razors, that's one more than the Mach 3!! It must be better... right? Not so... it turns o...

Sold a 52" TV in need of repair for $100 bucks on Craigslist. Guy just wanted it to repair another TV of the same model.

Got the darn thing out of my basement, and made some cash too!

Win for him, Win for me!
