I track these 18 categories. If there's something miscellaneous I pick a category that's close; if it's "miscellaneous" it's usually small and not a an important factor in the big scheme of things. clothes, fabric electricity, propane food / restaurant gas, oil change, auto repair gift, ch...

Get a second or part time job. Stores are hiring for Christmas now. Apply all of that second income to the credit card debt. Yes, it'll be tough but she needs more income. (First, cut up the cards!)

Pay off the CU debt, then up your 401k savings. Suggest you get to at least 10% of pay, more if possible.

Other ideas:
Find 0% interest cc offer & transfer balance (use former interest money to increase payments). If possible raise deductible on car insurance
