When I was a teenager, my parents sometimes sent me into Subway with their debit/credit card to buy dinner. Nothing ever arose as a result of me signing the paper, though my parents were surprised that it was allowed (they expected me to use debit, but Subway didn't give me the option).

I've heard that you should keep it under 25% or less of your pre-tax income, up to 30% if absolutely necessary, and that seems like a good guideline to me.
