Ok Bichon Frise, I'll bite...why don't you like 529's and why do you regret contributing to one? I haven't had kids yet and so haven't contributed to one, but I am planning to, so why are you against them? What would be better? Because dogs don't go to college! Okay, dumb joke . . . I retreat now :D

Chelsea, that link that Vintek provided is great. I remember either one or both of those books mentioned guidelines from a guy who does the investing for an Ivy League school (but I can't remember his name or the school for the life of me, so my Google searches aren't yielding much of anything), so ...

I think that as an overall picture, you are in pretty good shape and on the right track. I'm glad to see you are already taking advantage of your employer's full match to your 401(k). Personally, where I would start if I were you would be to quickly knock out those federal student loans -- first loa...

Well, I was gonna chime in to recommend that you pass on the new house, but . . . then I go to your post with the FANTASTIC news! Congratulations on the new job! I know this has been something you've really wanted, and you obviously impressed! Very well done, and I hope you celebrate!

In more exciting news, I've been tentatively offered a new job. It's a lateral move with a slight pay decrease (due to COL); however, it will help me get the experience needed to advance and we'll actually come out ahead money wise (also due to COL). It's not official yet; I'll share more details o...

Since you haven't gotten the debt part of your financial picture under control & you can't afford to change the term, why are you in such a hurry to get away from a 3.25% interest rate? Or are you looking to get another USDA plan with a different lender? I agree. It seems like you're putting yo...
