Be careful what you wish for. I started the new job and discovered "would you be willing to work some overtime" translates to a 50 to 70 hour workweek near as I can tell. Gulp. Even with no training, my supervisor encouraged me to come in on Saturday (how stupid is that??). I grudgingly di...

I am silently freaking out. After 2 years. I have a job where they will pay me some money to sit in a chair and type. I start Monday. Moving is insanely expensive. And I find myself justifying all kinds of expenses that I would have scoffed at before. Must reel myself in by reading Tightwad gazette....

We are moved. For the frugal folk, I used the cheapest moving company and did call directly after getting the shrug at the local level, and got the 25% discount I was counting on. That said, living in 'the middle of nowhere' did create some serious anxiety when I had a large moving truck but no tow ...

Ha, I know! The real trick is that my husband has to provide like 20 times the amount of joy to make up *his* part of the rent. What are the chances? Don't think I'll be sharing that thought with J......

Took the final and graduated with high honors! So relieved to have that out of the way. J and I headed down to AZ earlier this week and found an apartment. We had the debate of whether to go with the lower rent/small apartment or higher rent/large apartment. Tough decision - 1. we don't have jobs ye...

Time for an update! Spent the last 3 months working away at my medical coding class and I'm ready for the final next week. Hoping it goes well so I can get to work on finding employment. The foreclosure is moving along on time and I've been socking away that payment into savings. Speaking of moving ...

Just want to note that when I whined today about whether it was worth the effort to fill out an extra tax form, J piped up and said "how long could it take, an hour? If it gets you $$, that's a pretty good hourly rate of return for your effort." <== Um, who is this person of reason?? And w...

One month down. We were able to stay in budget even with a few surprises (hello new car battery) and I put a good chunk of cash into savings. No mortgage combined with a 3 check month plumped savings up! J is really starting to see the benefit of careful conscious spending and has mostly stopped tel...

Goodbye 2011. You were not the year I had hoped for... In November my beloved kitty went much sooner than expected, which made me very, very, very sad. But without a sick kitty to care for, J and I took the opportunity to travel down to AZ to see my family for Thanksgiving, which made me very happy....

I will exhaust federal benefits at the end of the month. Tier 4 was yanked because my state's unemployment dropped below 8.5%. I can move back to state benefits for a few more months. I'm just thankful to have had benefits available! I also have an emergency fund to draw off of if I need to, but I d...

October Update: Up and down. September dental work led to need for yet another crown. But good news is that dentist will split the cost with me, and best news is that I was never dropped from hubby's dental insurance and they paid a good part of my last claim. Pheww. I go in tomorrow for further tor...

September went ok. On the bad side, no jobs yet and no insurance for me. But on the good side, which is much more fun to contemplate, we were able to pay off about half of our medical debt, and J has been participating in the fine art of deciding what is worth spending money on and what is not. This...

August was a long hot boring month around here. Although that's how August goes most years anyway, so I suppose overall it was... normal. Financially it went as predicted. We did ok at staying in budget. And J will continue to have health insurance for awhile. Unfortunately those are the only positi...

but has this, don't worry, everything will work out attitude. He would prefer to work/earn less to have more personal time than vice versa. As he likes to say "I don't have a 5 year plan." You have nailed my husband. Or something like that  However, I am still plugging away at the 'w...
