What do you need a car for? Errands, job interviews, your potential new job? If you lived someplace with good public transportation I'd say just get rid of the car and get something new when you know what your job situation is going to be.

What is the history of your local housing market like? Even during the big collapse our local housing market barely budged because we get a lot of second home owners from a big city a few hours away.

Financial to do list at the moment: * Stalk craigslist looking for compact trucks, and research same. I could use a truck for camping or for an outdoorsy job. Right now I'm thinking about buying for 5-8k when June rolls around, as good gas mileage as I can get in that model, not too old. I have the ...

The grocery bill could be high, but I think it depends on the cost of living in your area. Who does the grocery shopping, and do you spend extra to buy organic food or brand names?

A few food ideas: Homemade no knead bread and a simple soup, like lentil or chicken. Search 'no knead bread' on google and go to the NYTimes link. This is a nice website, with recipes listed with cost/serving: http://budgetbytes.blogspot.com/ Homemade pizza is great, too, and really uncomplicated as...

Fantasma - I'm itching a little, but I like the flexibility of having savings, and the interest rate on my loans are so low (3.29%, 2.38%) - much more fun to think about buying a car or house with the money and saving that interest on the downpayment. I have the loans set up to autopay, so from now ...

Big milestones today. Updated my student loan spreadsheet and did a monthly transfer to my savings account. Student loan balance: $9995.38. Savings account balance: $9995.38. I also have money in my checking account, am getting paid by one job Friday, and have outstanding bills for a few hundred fro...

Eagle: I don't think this has the potential to be a permanent position, but I am glad about the month's extension. I wouldn't want to stay on permanently, in any case. Ecology is very seasonal work, so they need a lot of help in summer and not so much in winter. Yes, I do want to go to graduate scho...

So, the team of summer seasonal types I've been working on for the past month (yay!) has been offered a one-month extension through the end of September, if we want it. The other three members of the team seem inclined towards taking it. I have no other plans that can't be put off a month, but I get...

I have the best luck with inexpensive counterproposals, as opposed to, say, 'no, why would I ever want to spend time with you.' "Hey, how about going out for expensive drinks?" "I'd rather grab burgers at cheapbutyummy," or "Or you could come over to my place and we could po...
