Forum: Personal Finance   Topic: House meeting about money - what do we talk about?

Why can't one of the parties in a marriage be the leader? It isn't like it's a slave master. In my marriage sometimes I lead sometimes he leads. It just depends on aptitude and interest. If our interests collide then we work to resolve it. But often (not always) one person is right and just has to c...

The first thing I would talk about is if $in=$out, $in<$out, or $in>$out. If you are spending more than you are bringing in, then you need to go through, or set a date to go through your expenses and cut them. I wouldn't say "We're in this situation because you spend..." I would say, "...

I use Ooma. We have cell phones so if the service goes out we're not totally SOL. It is a little different. The sound quality doesn't seem quite as good and it takes longer to connect, but unless you are spending hours on the phone I haven't noticed a difference that doesn't make it worth it. We por...

That is too open of a question. You don't deal with a 2 year old the way you deal with a 12 year old the way you deal with a 20 year old, or any age in between. Nor do you deal with every child or infraction the same. So if you're looking for advice you need more specifics, and if you're looking for...

I didn't allude to any research. What I referred to is empirical evidence, as in observable, that depression/low self esteem/etc and risky sexual behavior are often interdependent. I think you might be putting words in my mouth. I am working very hard to stick to completely agreeable points rather t...

As bills come in you need to call the contacts listed and explain the situation. Everyone knows that an emergency or difficult birth can result in major medical bills that you are not prepared for. You are going to be getting bills from at least a dozen different places and they will all bill you se...

Simply because you are taught about condoms doesn't mean you will use them. By that logic abstinence should be the only thing taught because it's 100% effective. I make the decisions I do based on many factors. Ethics and religion are part of it, but I'm not sure what that has to do with anything si...

Why do you have to do everything at the same time? Why can't you deal with the business and keep the houses? Or just sell one house? Do you have the positive cash flow in the houses to hire a manager for them? Then you are free of the responsibility. Selling a house and selling/closing a business ar...

Wow, I don't pay much attention to Dave since I already have the basics down. But I agree that that is exceedingly BAD advice. I would like to add that those returns, even with his erroneous assumptions, are AVERAGE, not TYPICAL. If you are drawing the account down by definition you don't have a hor...

I am not disagreeing about locking people up and forcing them into treatment. I am speaking of laws and society, and there is a flip side. When you start forcing people into treatment you run the risk of abuse like we have had in previous generations, that's why we have the squeamishness now. I agre...

Wow, at risk of being flamed I'm going to have to offer an opposing opinion: Re: homelessness There are two categories of homeless, the temporarily homeless and the permanently homeless. The temporarily homeless typically partake of homeless services for one night to two weeks and use aid to get the...
