Thanks everyone for your responses. I have decided to get a supplemental policy. I met with an agent with State Farm yesterday and submitted an application for $300,000. Next comes the health exam but I'm pretty confident on that since I had last my annual physical exam last month with full blood wo...

My wife and I are expecting our third child in April 2014 and I'm thinking about increasing my life insurance. I am 39 years old and my wife is 30. My wife doesn't work outside the home so it's just life insurance in case I die so my wife can have some income/security. I am in excellent health and q...

My wife and I have been calculating our net worth and we recently hit $100,000 in net worth. I'm 38 and my wife is 30. We have two children ages 8 and 6. We are renters and do not plan to buy a home anytime soon. My gross income is around $112,000 a year. My wife is a stay at home mom. I'm a college...

Thanks for the responses. I will receive royalty checks twice a year in the future but the income is uncertain. I have been paying down my student loans under an extended 30 year plan so there is no real. My student loans from law school are only 5% of my monthly income and I have been paying them f...

I am a college professor and recently received my first check for book royalties for a textbook that I wrote. It's around $11,000 after taxes. I'm not sure what to do with the extra money. Does anyone have any advice? 1. Put into emergency savings (ING Direct) 2. Invest 3. Pay down student loans I'm...

Thanks everyone for the responses. Yes, the interest is at a fixed 3.5% rate. The interest is less than $2,500 per year and we are married filing jointly with income less than $120,000 so 100% of the interest is tax deductible. My wife does not work outside the home. Currently, the interest on the s...

I now have $35,000 in student loan debt from law school. I graduated from law school 10 years ago. I am now making pretty good money ($105,000 per year in city with low cost of living as a tenured professor). Until now, I have only been paying the minimum under an extended 30 year plan with payments...
