We need to put plastic up on the windows but haven't gotten around to it because we don't have a blow-dryer. The guy told us that plastic is great, like an extra pane of glass. But if you don't want the hassle (or need to be able to open your windows in the winter sometimes...), buy some Rope Caulk...

We had a free home energy audit done on our house this week. We live in the north and recently experienced a series of below ZERO temperatures. I've been on the waiting list for over a year for this. We learned a ton of very cheap and easy ways to seal up our house, involving Blue Great Stuff Foam, ...

That includes a 25% discount from my company. You might want to send a note from your company e-mail address (or your husband's address) to see if you qualify for a discount. You can do this from this page . I have been getting a 15% discount on the base service plan of $50 plus the $20 I pay for t...

You should check out the $10/month iPhone plan, as described by Mr Money Mustache: http://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/10/11/our-new-10-00-per-month-iphone-plans/ Oh hell yes I will! My contract is up in July, but my DHs is not until 5/2014. Maybe I'll get to keep using my iPhone after all. It is s...

BTW, why go back to a text/voice phone? You can still use the iPhone as one, and have data via WiFi when you have access to it. I wish I could, but I can't. TECHNICALLY, it is possible for the iPhone to operate without a data plan by accessing the WIFI in my house or all across the nation, BUT ATT ...

You are paying $100 a month for insurance on one car. When it's policy renewal time, you should look and see if you can get a better rate. Insurers tend to give the best quotes to new customers. Same with your home insurance. -$165 for two cell phones? Are you really using that much data? Can you d...

Yes, if I had to do it all over again... I'd have gotten the hell out of my home state and moved to someplace warm all year 'round. I'd have continued to rent and not have listened to my realtor who told me that buying a house would be a great investment and we'd be able to sell at a profit in 5 yea...

I don't get the point of having all these various fund savings [sic]. To keep organized. To know how much I have available for things like replacing broken windows, buying trim to finish the floors, and picking up the random stuff we need to keep this place running, maybe buying a set of sheets or ...

So the one thing that leaps out at me is your monthly mortgage payment. Unless you are being really aggressive with paying it off or your rate is out of sight, I can't make your stated numbers work. If it is a case of wanting to pay it down, you are doing that to the detriment of the rest of your f...

Thanks for the advice, folks. Based on what you said, I realize that I should take a look at the college savings and possibly redirect it into our e-fund. But I'm thinking that I must contribute at least $25 to the account (it's the Michigan Education Savings Program) as terms of the agreement. Tech...

Yeah, a nice exotic vacation would be nice. Sure, but we'll make do with camping & road trips for now. And constructive criticism is welcome. Being snarky isn't really helpful whatsoever. But thanks for taking the time to read all this. I'm just starting out and very recently decided to do this,...

Yes, car loan is absolutely ridiculous. I agree. Bad move basically, but we had a gas guzzler that need a new transmission and a car that we basically hated due to an annoying and expensive to fix knock in the front end. I know. It was dumb. We bought a 2012 Honda Civic and wrapped negative equity i...

Huh. I thought I'd get more feedback honestly...someone ripping to shreds my debt and income or something like that? A "keep it up, you're on the right track!" Well, I guess I'll just keep talking to myself! I went through our budget spreadsheet the other day and set up some long term goal...

I called ING and found out that changing my hours will not impact the repayment of my loan in any way; I will still have the same payment amount withdrawn automatically from each paycheck.
