Discounts are great, but don't overlook the possibility of arguing the validity of individual items on the bill. Some things might have been unnecessary or even unprovided. Scour the bill and be sure you understand and received every item. Don't skim over the doctor's visits either. I wouldn't be su...

Presently there is absolutely no way we can afford to just give this family member the amount of money they need and not expect it to be paid off. Clearly that's not true according to the rest of your post. You said you have 300k in registered investments. I'm not sure what 'registered' means, but ...

I second sdkramer's view. If you are willing to give them this money, then go for it. Don't harbor any expectations of return, and you won't be disappointed. Do not loan money out without a contract... to family or otherwise. This is just a thought. Why don't you suggest that they try prosper.com? I...

I've considered this question quite a bit too even though I'm no where close to financial independence. Here are some random points. The quote of $1200-$1400 you got from your insurance provider was probably for COBRA. That is the government mandated provision that the insurance company has to provi...

SJean, I've also had friends that subscribe to this type of propaganda. The Secret sounds like someone took a MLM scheme and removed the legitimate parts.

I'm just wondering if your friend is ethnic in any way?

Seems like people go through a lot to justify being entertained. Look, everybody wants to be entertained. If sports is your thing, be entertained by sports. It doesn't have to be about your kids. It doesn't have to be about charity. It can just be entertainment you enjoy. Personally, I just don't ge...

Since I moved to Tucson, AZ about a year ago, I have become very interested in solar. I bought a house that I feel is perfect for installing solar on... flat roof, already energy efficient, etc... but I haven't taken any action besides reading some books and checking around with installers. Lately, ...

JD, I hope you don't mind a request for a new feature on the site. Please recognize it as an endorsment of the valuable information offered. OK, so the other day a friend of mine was setting up her retirement account at her new job. She hasn't invested a lot, and of course she had the common questio...

OK, I got it! Turns out I can't dance, though.

I've been looking for some way to get cardio in. This seems like it will be a good method once I get in the groove. I wish the calorie tracking was a little better though. Nothing beats a graph.

I've been wondering for a long time if we can get a new photo in the GRS banner. The current one freaks me out a little.

You do know its upside down, right?
