I began reading GRS some time ago, but unfortunately not before I was laid off (a week before Christmas 2008 -- ho ho ho!) My salary continuance severance pay just ended and I have just applied for my first unemployment cheques. I've rented a much smaller apartment and am wading through my belongings to donate or sell whatever is not absolutely necessary -- and it's kinda depressing to see how much there is that falls in that category! However, I hope not to be on UI for more than 4 to 6 weeks as I am wading through the paperwork to return to post-secondary education in September. It's obvious my current skill set is not particularly useful ATM so I'm going to get some new skills and see where they lead.
I plan to wander through the topics to see what advice there is for the unemployed in terms of saving and whether it's indeed possible to get ahead, given current prices and the depressing state of the job market.
