You're in portland right?

I'd suggest going to Guitar Center and picking up an inexpensive desk mic stand and a pop screen. It's not all that spendy and it makes a huge difference.

We use those for our podcasts at http://www.dvdtalkradio.com

I played with the microphone again yesteray afternoon. I sat in my office, which is where I hope to record non-interview segments for the podcast, and I read poetry and old blog entries to myself. I learned a couple of things:

1. My "quiet room" is not very quiet. When the neighbor is mowing his yard, it shows up on tape. When the cats drag a pigeon into the house and let it go, the ruckus shows up on tape. When I move in my chair, the squeaks show up on tape. Basically, I'll need to come up with a better solution.

2. I do need a microphone stand. I'll check out Guitar Center next week.

3. I have a LISP. Oh my word. When did this happen? Have I always had it? Part of me wants to force myself not to have a lisp, but hey -- what can you do? If I do this, I'm going to just be natural, and if the lisp is how I speak, that's how I speak. shudder

More experiments next week.

Hmm, didn't I read something recently about "perfect" being the enemy of "good"?

If you do buy a desktop stand as opposed to a standard mic stand, just be sure it'll support the weight of this microphone without tipping over -- due to its built-in pre-amp and other electronics the CO1U is about twice as heavy as a standard mic such as the Shure SM58.

I'd love to listen to a get Rich Slowly Podcast. I listen to podcasts douring m commute and when doign the dishes. I agree 10-20 minute is the best length. The only finance podcast I listen to now is the Marketplace Money podcast now (NPR) - you could definitely compete for air time.

I haven't forgotten this. I just have a lot on my plate right now. I have a friend who is a band teacher and works with microphones and garage band a lot. He's coming over for dinner on Saturday. He's going to show me some tricks. Then it's just a matter of getting some material recorded.

Great, I recently started listening to Podcasts on my way to work. I'd love to add GRS to the mix! Can't wait to listen to something.
