Signature URL's disabled

Postby gilbertholdings » Mon Mar 04, 2013 12:53 pm

Hi,

I'm a new member, and new to forums in general. I was setting up my signature and it said the [url] code is disabled. I didn't see anything in the FAQ's about this needed a certain post count etc.

Is there a post count I'm missing before url's are enabled in signatures? I'm mostly curious because I've seen other sigs with links in them.

Anyways, i'm looking forward to being a member of this community and learning a lot more about finances in general.

Can you give an example of someone with a URL in their signature?

I skimmed through a handful of theads but not seeing it now :( i think it's like the car, as soon as you brin g it to the mechanic, it works fine.

I'll post back here if i find another one though.

Are you saying that as far as you know, links aren't allowed in the signature?

Maybe it was a fake signature that i saw, just at the bottom of the post as I believe url's are allowed inside the post.

Allowing hyperlinks in signatures is overwhelmingly used to disseminate spam by autoposting software. The reason you cannot seem to find any examples is because moderators delete such posts pretty much as soon as they see them. In rare cases, they are permitted, when the link is to a personal, non-commercial blog or website.

By the way, your signature is an example of one that would not be permitted. I almost deleted all your posts and banned your account, but it appears you are an actual human and not an autoposting program, so I figured I'd give you an opportunity to comply with the site rules (specifically, no spam). Please update your signature and remove the spam URL.

I saw at least one poster who it seems manually puts in a signature with a URL on all his posts. I believe posts are also limited to one URL per post, so that poster is basically burning his one on his spam signature. There are more spam URLs around here than useful ones, sadly, so the moderators have to draw a pretty tight line.
