I hate when waitress break down the money too much, its annoying, and you know they do it on purpose. I see it both ways too. Where if they need to give you $10 in change they will just give you two fives (forcing you to tip $5 on possibly a $10 bill.) Or, you get $10 1's, which is just annoying as hell. I understand getting a 5 and 5 ones, but ten ones, come on!

I actually got $14 ones, once, it was annoying. And we all know how annoying it is trying to fit a handful of ones into a already cramped wallet.

A question falling inline with this though, what do you guys do when theres already a tip added? Me and most my friends say the waiter/waitress losses out because we usually won't tip more then what they charged and most of us tip 20%+.

I'm a good tipper and usual tip around 20% but I will vary that if the service is really bad for no obvious reason. I get annoyed when the tip is already added in unless it is for a big group. And I agree it is often the server that loses because the amount added is typically 15%.

Here in WA it seems that mandatory gratuities are subject to sales tax. Though I've seen that law applied inconsistently. So, an additional reason to find automatic gratuities annoying.

The greatest is when they calculate the gratuity after tax has been figured in to get a bigger tip.

heh. Autograt is love.

Servers know that they likely lose out on tips when they autograt a party. Some I knew would play a game of judging the vibe of the table and selectively applying autograt. Me? I applied it every single chance I could. One 21-person party that left me a total of $5 scarred me for life (this was at a restaurant that didn't allow auto-grat).

Thank goodness I don't serve anymore.

Kombat, another suggestion, you can always ask for the specific amount back that you would like. In the above scenario, you could have handed her the $20 and told her that you only needed back a $5 bill, the rest was hers.

Regarding auto-gratuity, if it's on there, I don't add any more. Left to my own (and having waited tables to put myself through college), I am an overly generous tipper.

My department has become pretty casual, but there are other departments that do the jeans fundraising thing. I personally can't stand any fund raising at work. My employer has a big annual event where they encourage employees to make charitable donations. Although a lot of worthy causes benefit, I can't stand how the publicize "ABC Company and its employees donated" such and such amount of money. Earn your Goodwill by doing right by your employees ad the community you do business in, not by calculating a SUM of employee donations to put in a news release.

All of my donations are done outside of work.

Its been a frustrating week, speed bumps will happen on projects, I have learned. I am frustrated because this is all new to me and not getting the info I need to do what I think is a swell job.

Its at the pit of my stomach, can't sleep a full night. I just want enough to rest and then get back to work. There's so much I want to accomplish in my life. I love to work. I want to know whatever I do, I put myself into it. I don't want to say I regret not doing my best for that moment.
