you could always scratch yourself if you have an itch or get some calamine lotion. if anything, you could get some of the 0% interest rates going on out there. but didn't you post a while ago about a lexus or some other spendy car and the situation involving your wife wanting a larger car and you giving her an ultimatum on learning how to drive better or something? or maybe that was someone else. i've got mad cow, so i can't remember too good.

Beautiful car. I actually think it is a great deal too.

BUT... the new TL is coming out in a few months and is supposed to kick its butt (Automobile Mag this month "10 cars to wait for")

Whenever I want a new car I look at what the 2-3 year old ones are going for (really going for) and I relaize that I dont mind waiting till the new car that i want gets 30% cheaper...but then by the time that car is three years old something else has caught my eye...

i'm the same way.. i don't plan on buying this brand new.. i can't afford it.. with the extra options i want.. the car will be in the high 30's.. but hopefully in a couple years i can find one in the mid 20's

my mind changes a lot too when it comes to cars.. i have to make sure it is something i can see driving for the next 10 years

AS long as you realize that a car obsession is one of the worst material obsessions to have from a financial standpoint. High $30's to buy, right? That's expensive. Then insurance? A fancy car comes with more repairs too, and you'll be worrying about every nick it gets in the parking lot. Plus, you got a sweet ride so you'll want to drive more...for the bargain price of $4/gallon. Click and Clack the Car Talk guys had the advice that if you want to save on gas, just get a crappy car that you never want to drive or be seen in. Not really the case with the g35:wink:

Anyway, it is a beautiful car and as spendy cars go, you could probably do much worse. Kudos on considering all the reprecussions instead of just financing away!

It's funny, from that angle, it looks like pretty much any other sedan -- my first impression was "wow, it looks like a Hyundai!"

I imagine it's different on the inside and probably a bit more fun to drive, but I guess I've never been able to get excited about a sedan. ;-)

don't let the fact that it is a sedan fool you.. 306-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 (best car in it's class).. there is also an all wheel drive model

meh. nissan/infiniti design really never got me too excited. the z looks nice, but i wouldn't drive one.

i'll wait till the lexus is-f has been out for a few years. by then the lf-a will be a bigger deal, and i can buy one of those relatively cheaply to throw around on the track... one instance where depreciation works in my favor ;)

really, i find much more than 120 hp unnecessary for daily driving.

Uh, that's a G37, boss.

Have you driven one? Unless they've really improved the FM chassis from th G35, I'd take a gigantic pass on that car. The new one doesn't offer any significant advantages other than a slight styling updgrade from the G35's. Though, to be fair, I think both cars look pretty hawt, but only the coupes. The sedans are pig-nasty ugly and the AWD version is a slushbox joke. Just take a look at the resale value of the G35x's. It's very clear that the coupes hold their value much better than the sedans.

Best in it's class? 'fraid not. While an Evo doesn't have the prestige or the comfort level, it will run circles around a 350Z or G35/37 all day. And, it's a sedan too. If you're looking for true comfort and prestige, BMW is the way to go and though I'm not sure about the numbers, I doubt you'll sacrifice much in the way of performance.

no it's not.. the coupe is the g37 (with a few more horses).. the sedan is still a g35 for 08-09

and the 08 body for the sedan looks way better than the previous years.. although i do agree with you.. the exterior doesn't really stand out..

i heard they made some improvements on the interior as well

really don't give a f*ck about what the evo can do.. i'm the type that likes luxury and sport mixed in one car.. that's just what i prefer

i haven't test drove it yet.. but i've heard many reviews comparing this car to the 3 series, the new c-class, lexus is 250/350.. and many people preferred the g35

Yeah I gotta say that I would never compare an EVO to a Infinity just because they have 4 doors. That is like comparing a 4 cylinder tacoma and nissan titan and saying you want to tow with the tacoma...

The evo is VERY specialized. Essentially a 16K car with 14K in engine and suspension upgrades. But the interior etc is still a 16K car. Not that it isnt impressive performance etc. Just not the same "class". The Evo is in the class with a civic SI, WRX STI, Cobalt SS, Golf R32 which all have positives and negatives and in which the Evo runs well.

I actually think that the BMW is getting WAY to expensive. I can't get my head around a car for even 30K. I think that the 3 series now costs like 40K base to make room for the 1 series and the 1 series while decent performance etc but it is sorta bulldog ugly and the 135 is EXPENSIVE at like 36-37K and only a coupe.

Just FYI Motor Trend says Infiniti G37 beats the BMW 335.

http://www.autospies.com/news/Does-the- ... ict-18189/

I love talking cars but I can never know what people value. Me...VALUE, next to no depreciation, good MPG, reliable, practical. In that order.

I would offer that in the 13-15K range the previous generation G35 sedan is a DEAL. I would probably skew towards the TL type S myself but the RWD of the g35 is going to give it a performance edge. In the 13-15K range I would NOT want a used BMW repairs are expensive and really the teutonic style of interior doesnt suit me.

That sounds like a bad itch? Ouch. I recommend my dermatologist. His name is Dr. Dave Ramsey. He always seems to shoot straight with me, even when I don't want him to!!

Sweet car though. I've never seen a car sweet enough to finance though. Hope you feel better soon!

yeah i know.. very bad itch!

i understand that it's not a necessity.. i don't really need a car for the next 5 years.. plus being debt free right now is a very nice thing

the only reason why i'm contemplating about it now is because i have a trade in (paid for) that i can get some value for now.. where as if i wait 5 years.. it won't be nearly worth half as much

if i'm going to finance.. my strategy is always this.. buy something reliable that will last at least 10 years.. make extra payments and pay it off before term ends.. and ride it til the wheels fall off

I think it all evens out. Yes, your current car is depreciating, but so will the G35. In 5 years, both will be worth considerably less. Depending on the APR you can get on financing for the G35, you might end up way behind versus if you kept your current car for 5 years, banked the money you would be spending on the G5, and then sold your current car for scrap. You can then buy a 2013 G35 for cash and probably have a good chunk left over, or you can buy a 2008 model for cash even sooner.
