Mory, looks like the best way to get a Wii for Christmas 2007 was to buy one in November. Be patient, they'll be back out there as the season cools off.

Santa did deliver (after he bought a console in November, which has been living in our closet since) and the whole family had a ball with it yesterday. It was totally hilarious watching the 3 year old flailing around playing golf, and the 7 year old pitching and batting. The Miis are a hoot, too--every time her Mii-avatar was on screen, our 3 YO went wild. "There I am! There I am!"
My husband and I also had a great time with a bowl-off and the fitness test stuff after the kids went to bed.

So much fun! The timer dealie says we played with it for four hours yesterday, wow!

Does it have to be hooked up to the net to buy the old games? I don't think I want to (or can) hook it up to our 'net connection. IIRC it's got a USB port...can I buy the games and put them on our PC and then transfer them to the Wii with a stick drive?

My wife got Super Mario Galaxy for Christmas from my sister. She spent all day yesterday playing it. I like mostly sports games so I don't think I'll play it much, but now that I have wifi set up in the house, I may see what old arcade games they have on the virtual console.

My girls got some money for Christmas so they bought an extra dance mat so they can play at the same time. It was only $20 which I thought was a pretty good deal. Mory, maybe you should try smaller stores to find a Wii. I bought mine Nov. 11th at a big box store, but I think I just looked at the right time. I was in the Real Canadian Superstore on the 21st and they had just gotten a few in. It's a grocery/department store with a small electronics department. I was in EB Games on the 27th where the kids bought the extra dance mat, and it looked like they had a few. I don't know if you have that store in the US.

My experience, too, is that the smaller stores are more likely to have Wiis. Everyone goes to the big box stores, but few people try the small places.

My brother has purchased three Wiis at three different times at Target in a smaller town. I think each Target, WalMart gets a certain allotment, so 10 Wiis/divided by a small town population results in better success than a big city.

Also, my mom bought all her kids Sonic and Mario at the Olympics. We all love it. For those of you who like Wii Sports, it's sort of similar. Lots of active games. Lots of games that involve multiple people. Etc.

Finally, I'll be in Japan in a few weeks, does anyone know if there are games I can buy there that I can't buy here?

Daria, there are games in Japan that you can't buy in the U.S. However, check to be sure they're compatible. Wiis are region-encoded, just like DVD players. I don't know if they use the same region system, but it wouldn't surprise me. That means that Japanese games probably won't work in the U.S. You'll want to verify this.

I wonder if this means that you can multi-region then, just like DVD players. Too much to hope for I imagine.
