GRS TalkCast

Postby JerichoHill » Thu Jun 07, 2007 11:17 am

I thought about setting these things up to base around issues.

Basically, TalkShoe is free to use aside from your phone costs. Free to download and listen. It also allows the moderator to select folks who've dialed in to talk.

I think that this could translate well to a feature here on some subject matter given critical mass of folks (show up) and someone who can actually moderate a discussion panel (Hi!).

E.G. We could have a few folks discussion investments strategies with where folks first present different strats, and then we can discuss them...sort of like a panel discussion with Q&A. You can easily inform the moderator that you want to reply.

I'd like to see feedback on a time (If this works, I think once a month is enough). I think it would require JD to be there, plus some regular readers/contributors.

Do you see this as a feasible idea? If so, would a Sunday Night Call-in work? (Think 1.5 hours max)

I think the most important aspect of this is moderating the discussion and having a (mostly) fixed agenda in advance, just as one would have at his day-job.

Otherwise, I'm not so sure I'd want to participate over the phone. I'd be more comfortable with moderated online chat.

Tiny,

it is done online, but you have to call into the service. www.talkshoe.com

So no one gets your phone number.

It's more of a voice thing for me, not that there's anything particularly wrong with mine. I dunno, I'm not good at picking up the phone to talk to people. I could never be a cold-calling sales agent.

I'm not sure that you could work around the time difference so that I could join in.

I think I'm 8 hrs ahead of JD at the moment and 5 hrs ahead of Jericho. And I'm not staying up till 2 in the morning.

I think the idea is good but I'm confused about the particulars, are you talking or typing? Why not use a regular chat like Yahoo? Or add a chat box onto the board?

Basically, folks are calling in and the software acts as a switchboard and someone acts as a moderator switching back and forth. Users can signal that they would like to speak. Its like a moderated call-in, works pretty well.

If we did this on a weekend then we can work out the time difference.

It would basically allow GRS another medium to export out to the world o personal finance

I'm cogitating on this. It sounds interesting, but I've never heard one of these in action. Are there examples that you can point to? I like the idea, especially if Stephen is volunteering to moderate! :)
