Lost my favorites, please help

Postby sandycheeks » Fri Aug 03, 2007 7:50 am

a computer issue has lost my favorites. So I'm trying to recreate them. I had several PF blogs and I can't remember them all. Anyone care to share the ones they visit? I'm sure there is some overlap and I can 'find' some of mine.

Also, I had favorited a recent blog post comparing credit card offers. Anyone know of one ?

TIA

Other folks can chime in with links to PF blogs, but I just wanted to give you some advice on how to avoid this problem in the future:

It's really easy to export your favorites (and your cookies) to files that you can then back up for safekeeping.

In Internet Explorer, go to the File menu and choose "Import and Export" and export your favorites and cookies that way. Save them to your desktop and from there you can burn them onto a CD or copy them to a thumb drive, or even email them to your gmail account if you have one.

In Firefox, go to the Bookmarks menu and choose Organize Bookmarks, then go to the File menu and choose Export.

If you're on a Mac and using Safari, go to the File menu and choose Export Bookmarks.

This is a great reason to use a blog aggregator. Here is the list of blogs that I scan on a semi-regular basis. http://www.bloglines.com/public/pf101 The personal finance blogs are towards the bottom under "pf101". Hope this helps.

Well, you should definitely bookmark http://www.fivecentnickel.com/

That guy's brilliant! ;)

Seriously, though... Here's a link to a list of the top 10 blogs that referred visitors to my site in July:

That's a pretty good collection right there.

Thanks for the advice on computer stuff. I need to figure out how to do all that.

Ding ding ding... the award goes to Nickel. Out of his top 10 referral blogs for July, 7 are in the list of 8 or 9 I visited daily. (I'll have to check those other few out  ) Apparently it's one big incestuous blogworld out there LOL

That's really wierd. I lost all my bookmarks today too. I don't know what happened, but things I've collected for years (and still use) are gone. Any way to retrieve them?

If you use Internet Explorer, it stores the bookmarks in a specific folder. Click Start, then run, then copy and paste this:

C:\Documents and Settings

That will open up a window with one or several folders in it. Find the one that has the name you log in under (or perhaps just "administrator"). Open that folder, then open the Favorites folder. If they are not there, it wouldn't hurt to check the other users favorites to see if they are there (or if you're not sure which login you're using). That would be the first thing to check...
