Has everyone seen the "Priceless"/"For-everything-else-there's-Mastercard" commercial where the people in the commercial are eating crazy, exotic foods like a chocolate covered jalpeno pepper.

Then at the end the voice over guy says, "For everything YOU MUST HAVE RIGHT NOW, there's debit Mastercard" (my emphasis).

Does hearing that make anyone else's blood boil? Does anyone not see how disturbing that statement can be? Oy!! Crap like this just....I don't know....

Ah! I found a link. (SFW) http://www.priceless.com/us/personal/en/pricelesstv/ The spot is called "Restaurant" [/b]

I prefer that to the cash call and title loan company commercials that say things like "I wanted a vacation" "I wanted to buy her a surprise" "I wanted a new jacket" because those loans are about 400% interest. If someone has to spend like an idiot better to do it on a credit card at 20% than with one of these loans at 400%

A friend of mine in college had made a series of really good parody ads based on the "Priceless" commercials he tagglined "Tasteless", "Shameless", "Careless", etc. Unsurprisingly he works in advertising now.

I love the quote from the Roger Dodger:
Quote:
Roger: You can't sell a product without first making people feel bad.
Nick: Why not?
Roger: Because it's a substitution game. You have to remind them that they're missing something from their lives. Everyone's missing something, right?
Nick: I guess.
Roger: Trust me. And when they're feeling sufficiently incomplete, you convince them your product is the only thing that can fill the void. So instead of taking steps to deal with their lives, instead of working to root out the real reason for their misery, they go out and buy a stupid looking pair of cargo pants.

i like the priceless commercials. they are well done.

that particular commercial is all about using your debit mastercard, which is in fact not putting anything on a credit card. i think this is probably a more responsible commercial. if you must have something now, then why not spend money that you actually have now by using your debit card rather than using your credit card? nothing to cringe at there.

I hate hate HATE the "anyone can have a computer! All you need is a checking account!" commercials.

I liked the original "priceless" ads, but they've gotten away from the original message in some of the newer ones. Like the one where none of the stuff listed cost money. Well then, why do I need a Mastercard?

The ad that really sets my teeth on edge is the one for a ScotiaBank 100% mortgage with the slogan "You're richer than you think" which I've seen a couple times at movie theaters. First of all, offering zero-down mortgages is just a dumb business decision, especially considering the abject lesson going on in the US right now. And secondly, I weep for anyone who thinks having no money for a down payment, not even 5%, somehow translates to "rich". A better slogan would be "You're richer now than you will be when we're through with you."

There's a reason I don't work in advertising.

Idiots.... I'll start a new company-earn 200% interest, I'll be rich in no time. :D

Also anything that actually says "the more you buy the more you save." I shudder every time I hear it.

I thought the point of the Scotiabank "You're richer than you think" ads was to point you to the latte factor they've been stressing for years.
