As a little bit of an introduction to me.
I am financially stable with no credit card debt to pay off.
I have to this point been something of a binge spender, directing my earnings at any item a marketing campaign could convince me that I needed at the spur of a moment. (maybe not quite that bad).
I have never carried any credit card debt but have in the past used credit cards to buffer spending from month to month, paying the card off each month.
Where this seemed to get me was that my earnings for each new month always went to pay the last month.
I have known that I should be a more conscious spender but have always had a hard time staying motivated and keeping my urge to spend in check.
I decided that it is time to grow up when it comes to my spending, and to appreciate that the money that I earn is money that I worked hard to get. I want to keep as much of it as I can.
I have paid off the credit card that I had been using for buffering, and have not used it since.
I have set goals for spending and saving. I have stuck to my plan. Now I am ready to share it with this forum in hopes of maintaining my fortude towards these goals.
I started visiting this website about 3 weeks ago, and have been planning an working on my goals since then.
I really enjoyed reading the fiscal fitness journal of SAM, and following the great and simple inspiration provide in Sams fitness journal here are my goals.
These are my 2008 goals (Starting in September)
2008 IRA Contribution - $5,000.00 (Complete by 3/31/09) Funding of Emergency Fund - $10,000.00 (Complete by 12/31/08) Vacation Fund - $2,500.00 (Complete by 12/31/08) Gifting Fund - $2,000.00 (Complete in time for Christmas Spending)
I started the first part of this month and so far this month I was able to set aside savings only towards the emergency fund.
Funding of Emergency Fund - $2234.35
I am working to keep my spending down so that I can create additional savings to direct to my goals at the end of the month.
Next month I plan to fund the following. 2008 IRA Contribution - $714.29 Funding of Emergency Fund - $2,500.00 Vacation Fund - $625.00 Gifting Fund - $500.00
I appreciate having this forum to share and to be inspired.
