Twenty years after I took on my first debt, I've finally managed to rid myself of it. Well, I do still have a Very Big Mortgage, and that's one of my next targets, but I've eliminated everything else. It feels awesome!

Congratulations! You are really an inspiration. Any (frugal, of course) plans to celebrate the occasion?

It's so crazy, but no. Even just a month ago, I thought I was going to buy myself a nice Stickley chair. But now I'd rather tuck that $2,000 into my IRA and bolster my savings for my upcoming move to working from home. I'm sure I'll find some little thing to celebrate with, but I don't know what just yet. (Actually, there was something I was looking at earlier today, but I can no longer recall what it was. Must not have been that important, eh?)

So, debt is gone. Next on the agenda: getting rid of the fat, and finding time to write more consistently.

That's a paradoxon I've observed with myself, as well: The more money you save, the less you want to spend it. Strange!

I've noticed the same thing, but I actually like it! Less clutter, guilt, etc. More savings, better feelings... It's nice! Congrats JD.

Congratulations on that!! I think you are feeling as if a thorn is pulled out from your chest.. I'm really happy for you. Why not celebrate with Mcdonalds or ice cream??

When you first begin trying to get out of debt there seem to be so little progress that, paying down debt (instead of the instant gratification of spending) seems hopeless. Thats why it take quite a commitment to stay the course. But when you see progress it really excites you to do more.

Congrats on getting to that point. It is a very good feeling to have no debt.

That is fantastic, well done. I always find it very inspiring when I read suces stories - I am trying hard to pay off my mortgage and when I hear of other people paying off debts quickly it makes me realise that I can do it too.
