Paid off my credit card debt!

Postby brooke » Tue May 20, 2008 7:57 am

Today I paid off my last credit card debt! The total I've paid off over the life of my cards wasn't astronomical (it was probably around $4000), but I'm really proud of paying them off.

Here's what else I've done with the help of this site:
Emergency fund: currently at $650, and contributing $75 every 2 weeks.
Budget: envelope system, seems to be working out ok

Saving mindset: wow, it feels great to save, doesn't it?? Now I'm thinking of everything in terms of saving up, instead of buying on impulse. My parents always buy everything (cars, furniture, etc.) on credit and I just thought that was the way people did it. I want some bedroom furniture (right now it's just a mattress and two mismatched "nightstands," one of which is an old filing cabinet. So I'm going to start saving for the furniture after my emergency fund fills up.

What else is next:
Car loan, $14,828.75  Accelerated payments, here I come.

Thanks for the inspiration, JD!

That is awesome. Me and my family are trying to become debt free.

I am currently in a real battle with myself over a purchase I would love to just go make. But I would have to put it on credit.

Awesome job! Keep it up, you'll be pleasantly suprised to find how one's priorities change when they're out of debt. Saving and seeing their money stockpile becomes much more fun than buying the latest toy on credit! Good job OP, can't wait to be there with you!
