Getting finances in order this year!!

Postby jwjody » Fri May 30, 2008 2:42 pm

I came into 2008 with balances on 3 credit cards that was probably somewhere near $4000. I also had 2 student loans and a car payment.

As of March 2008 I paid off ALL MY CREDIT CARDS!! Then I took the monthly payments from that and put that toward my student loans and paid one of them off just this month!

So now I just have the other student loan and my car payment and my car will be paid of in less than a year now by taking the money from my paid off loans and applying to to my car loan.

I've also set down a budget and have got my emergency reserve set and I've opened a Roth IRA and will have it maxed out before the end of the year. (I've had a 401k, so the Roth isn't my first retirement vehicle).

I've never made too much money so before all the money I was making was going to live on. But I got my act together and finished my bachelors and 2 years ago I got a very nice paying job but was always spending money because I could finally afford the things I couldn't have before. iPhone? YEP! LCD HDTV? YEP! iMac? YEP! So I stopped spending and started saving money and it's great!

Future Value Calculator for your iPhone

Download this to your iPhone and play with different savings amounts and different rates of return. Don't forget a new habit of paying yourself first. Start 2 accounts one for retirement and one for spending.
