When I got marrierd I had excellent credit, never paid anything late, but had a ton of debt. My wife had a moderate amount of debt. We were married 2 years ago, but got serious about our finances in the last year and a half. We owed about $40,000. . A majority of the debt were car loans.

In the last year and six months we paid of $26,000! We paid her car off a year and 9 months early, and we are paying mine off on Saturday a year and 2 months early. We are also investing a little for retirement, saving a little, and still living pretty well. We are scheduled to be debt free within the next 9-10 months. It would be sooner, but I am going back to school to change careers and we are paying for college in cash.

It psychologically pains me to face my debt, but I know the financial freedom will be sweeter than honey.

Congratulations to you and your wife! My husband and I are in the same situation, but we owe $61K. So, if you have any humble advice...please pass it my way. :D

Congrats.

I understand that feeling of clearing of your debt. It's absolute freedom.
