Paid off a student loan!

Postby saro » Fri Apr 29, 2011 9:15 pm

I paid off a student loan that started as 68K, went up as high as 70K and is now a big fat zero!

Only 1 more to go! Yay!

Congratulations!

I was fortunate enough to get through college and law school without student loans (scholarships and a generous grandmother saw to that), but I remember how great it felt when we paid off my wife's student loans. I imagine you feel even better since it was your loan.

BTW the best part (for us at least) is seeing the looks on the faces of our friends from school when they complain about their student loan payments and we nonchalantly say that we don't have any anymore. They look at us as if we are from another planet. :D

Thanks everyone!

I thought I would feel relieved and giddy but it hasn't really hit me yet. I think the next and final (!) loan will be the most difficult to pay off, since it's consolidated and a big loan. But I can do it! :)

Oh, I can't wait until I get to that point. I get some flak from friends and family about how I live my life (no car, haven't purchased a house/condo & etc)... so it will be nice to say I've got no debt.

I have been without debt for many years. It truly is a blessing. Keep up the good work. You really will live like so few do and so many should.

Great job! I have my student loan and mortgage left (then I can officially say I am debt free!) Has anybody used the Upromise program to help pay down their student loans?

Yes. I currently have a Upromise credit card and use the website when I order items online. Any money accumulated is transferred on a quarterly basis and it goes directly towards the student loan interest first. It's not always a lot of money, but every little bit helps!

This is what I am most looking forward to...My school loans started at 18K and I have paid them down in the past year to 10K all with 2 part-time jobs....My friends think I'm crazy for being so cheap but I know it will be worth it in the end!
