2009 graduations: 1 down, 1 to go!

Postby galactic » Sat May 09, 2009 8:36 am

my husband graduated from college yesterday.

he got hurt and lost his job in late 2007. after having accepted what was happening, he sat down with a bunch of career-oriented books, trying to decide what he could physically do that he would enjoy. he ran into a former client from his old job one night, and their interactions really influenced him to go to college for his current degree.

he started in spring 2008. he had a long commute every semester, but particularly for the last two semesters. we dealt with a lot of challenges, including nine months apart while he took his major classes across the state. but we managed. he interned at my university's hospital facility, where he loved every second of his job.

and now, at the age of 30, he is finally a college graduate.

next up, i am due to finish my PhD in a few months. 2009 is shaping up to be a big year.

Congratulations :)

It's nice to see hard work and sacrifice pay off. That's supposed to be what made this country great, and I think sometimes -- particularly lately -- we've lost sight of that. You both should be proud.

at this phase, it's mostly sheer relief and complete exhaustion.

will be prouder yet when he lands that first job and we have two incomes again :)

Awesome news, Galactic! You should be proud of yourselves...once you get that dissertation finished and some SLEEP!

Congrats on keeping your eyes on the prize; it's inspirational.
