My Emergency Fund is...fully funded!

Postby Cely » Sat Mar 13, 2010 1:43 pm

I am so happy and proud and have to tell someone -- I figure you guys will understand.

I got a very unexpected bonus at work which was deposited today. I transferred most of it to my ING emergency fund, which means that I have now hit my goal: six months of comfortable living expenses, assuming no unemployment. For me (expensive area) that totals $24K.

I started the EF in January 2008 as a result of reading GRS. It's taken just over two years to fund this, using automatic monthly deposits, and throwing any extra chunks of money at it as well. I honestly can't believe I was able to funnel so much money into the account -- where was it all going before?!

I'm going to keep the automatic deposit -- now it will be going into my Travel fund. I also started a Car fund since I'll need to buy a new (used) car in the next few years.

This is just a great day. I can't stop smiling! If you're still working towards your own EF or debt goal, keep going -- it feels SO great when you get there!

Congratulations! That is awesome! I'm working towards that day myself (for 3 month fund), and that won't be until end of next year. Slow but steady.
