The lure of a Wii was enough to draw me into posting a bit of my story.
I spent years train wrecking myself financially. I made good money, and always figured I'd pay it off. That day never seemed to come. Being young and single, I lived a life of eating out, buying drinks for friends, and buying every toy I wanted when I wanted it. No self control, and no understanding of the hole I was digging.
After amassing a significant amount of personal debt - roughly $25K at one point, I came to my senses. I have been working hard to pay my debt off.
The second portion of the story is I quit my job, and went back to school (Seminary), and in spite of being a full time student I have paid off $21K of that debt. I'll be working on my student loans for a long time to come, but they will be manageable since I am no longer so tied down with consumer debt.
My methods have been 1) Quit spending! 2) Track expenses 3) Eliminate luxuries 4) Clip coupons 5) Avoid buying new 6) sell stuff and declutter
I am still working on #6 above, but am making progress.
