I knew that would get your curiousity...anybody has their employer withdraw a set amount per paycheck that goes towards say EE bonds for example? Do you think its worth it? Do you save that money and invest it instead?

I have the money sent to my retirement account instead. Savings bonds are too conservative, IMO, for the long-term time horizon I'm looking towards.

For safe/conservative returns, I prepay on our mortgage - 10% of the principle payment - each month.

Yeah in Australia it's called 'Salary Sacrifice', I can use it to send pre-tax earnings to my retirement fund or purchase shares in the company I work for and pay less tax.
