Hello, I'm new here. I'm a 23-year old with an engineering education, and I'm clueless about the finance sector as a whole. Thought I'd ask here - are there any good books you can recommend that can educate a layman with the knowledge & insight? I'm trying to self-teach new things, and finance is one of them. As of right now I'm really interested in the credit system, e.g. how banks issue credit cards and whats in it exactly for them.

Thanks.

Well, mostly money.

I've started reading The Ascent of Money which describes the history of money and institutions from the very beginning to current age. It's simply fascinating.

You can check out books like The Necessity of Finance by Anthony M. Criniti IV, Autobiography, Poor Richard, and Later Writings (Library of America #37b) by Benjamin Franklin, The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham and the Theory of Investment Value by John Burr Williams.

"The Intelligent Investor"
This is perhaps the most important and influential book ever written about value investing. Originally published in 1934 by Ben Graham, this work has been heralded by such notable investors as Warren Buffett as "the best investing book ever written".
