best Canadian rewards credit card?

Postby squished18 » Wed Apr 18, 2007 8:57 am

I currently use an Air Miles Amex and a PC Mastercard. I use my Air Miles for car wash certificates at Shell. PC Points for free groceries. Any better offers out there?

I have a CIBC Aerogold card.. there is an annual fee which pretty much excludes this from most peoples lists, but I like the aeroplan program with Air Canada and can certainly make use of the points for relatively free air travel.

If you like the travel, the MBNA SPG Mastercard is by far the best "bang for your buck" free credit card in Canada (IMO).

I've got a CIBC card that pays up to 2% cash back on purchases.

Any annual fee? What are the details of the "up to 2%" part?

Try the famous RFD comparison chart!

Redflagdeals has a pretty nice article comparing rewards credit cards .... here's part 1 (yeah, 7 pages to scroll through, sorry) and here's the big-ass comparison table. Scroll down for the multi-coloured graphs of "returns less than $10,000 per year" and more than. On a personal basis, I'm quite happy with my MBNA SPG card. The rewards are not as generous as the US incarnation, but we still haven't paid for a hotel room in 3-ish years.

Details at http://www.cibc.com/ca/visa/dividend-pl ... -ftrs.html

We throw everything on the card, so we max out the benefits. It's $79 a year for the first card.

We have a CIBC Aero Classic card which accumulates Aeroplan points, but at a lower rate than the Aerogold. However, it does have a lower fee (only $29 per yr. IIRC).

Interesting. I had never even heard of this card before. I'm not much of a traveller, but my fiance is. So after the wedding this just may be a good deal. She gets her vacation. I get to stay in a pretty nice place. And I don't shell out a lot of coin for it. The question is: am I willing to go back to washing my own car?

thanks,

Change gas stations to ESSO, and get their Esso Extra card. That way, you can use your SPG card to pay for the gas, and get esso extra points on top of it. EE points can be used for car washes. That's what I do anyways.
