I am interested in hiring a life coach. I am in a place where now I have time to devote to starting a new endeavor (like my own business), but need help with ideas, how to get things off the ground, focus on getting there, etc. I have talked to a few people, but they seem mostly connected with the personal aspects of the business, like how I as an individual could do something to improve the business. I think that is great, but right now I think that is a little advanced for where I am. I need someone that is going to say "Ok here you go, here's what you need to consider, here's who you might need to go talk to if you want to incorporate, here's a few major laws in the field you are going into, have you thought about X,Y and Z aspects". I have a rough idea of what I would like to do (there are a few different options), but I haven't found anyone who knows much specifically about those fields. I am leary to try one of those online "find you a life coach" type websites so I was wondering how others have found life coaches. Thanks for any input!

You don't need a life coach. You need to talk with SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives). They do exactly what you are looking for.

I think a life coach sounds like a fantastic idea. However, be forewarned that it DOES cost quite a bit of money and it's only useful for certain people. Essentially, if you're the type of person that needs a bit of motivation (and you have the money to spare), I say go for it! It sounds like it would be good for you. Now, the reason I'm on here so late is because I, too, am looking for a life coach. I happened to stumble upon this thread while looking for life coach advice and figured that this might be useful.

Now, I wonder -- do you folks think a life coach would be right for me? I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with my life (business/entrepreneur-wise), but I'm afraid of spending the pretty penny. I mean, I understand why it's so expensive -- life coaches (which I'm guessing is THEIR sole business) got to eat too. Essentially, what I'm asking is what TYPE of person should get life coaching? I wanna know if it's worth it for me. I wonder if these contractors have a human resource management. Hmm. Thanks, folks!

Sounds like you need a manager more than a life coach. I would say that those that need and use life coaches are indecisive and confused in everyday life. Life coaches are not going to help you start a new business.

I believe that life coaches are related to your emotional life rather than business life but, I could be wrong. If you are going to begin a new endeavor and don't know where to start, talk to seasoned professionals and people that have experience doing the same thing.

There are specialist business coaches out there, you just need to check that they specialise in you area. I do business, life and financial coaching (but probably not in your area), but in regards to business coaching I work with small to medium sized business in terms of start up, growth, legal/employment issues, strategic plans, operational plans, etc, etc... Some coaches only focus on succession planning, strategic alignment, corporate values. Just do the research and you will find the right coach for you.

Coaching can be a great help to get you on track and keep you accountable to your goals.

It is totally perfect to hire a life coach when you think you need someone to advise you and give you that extra push. It could be an expensive affair, but if you can afford it nothing like it. It is the tendency of some people to have a guidance and some external energy that drive them towards their goals and here is where life coaches come into picture. Go ahead and all the best!

Rather than a life coach I would look into reading some motivational books. Or perhaps taking an aptitude test to see if you are the kind of person (personality) best suited for starting/owning your own business. Not everyone has the entrepreneur fortitude needed for the task.

Plus I hear life coaches can be very expensive.
